Did Sean Gallagher run over your cat?

i think his point is that projection for gallagher isn't nearly as optimistic as most people on this board think he will be - which is a perfectly valid point. i don't know that he'll be any better than lieber or even marquis this season.

Yes, that's all I'm saying. Right now, Gallagher projects to be about the same as Lieber or Marquis and he had a bad day today. It's not blasphemy to admit either of those things.

Those are the Wild Card standings, not the overall AL standings.

Of course, lost in all this will be that Sean Gallagher's day wasn't all that good.

It wasn't all that bad all things considered.

4.1 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K. Yes, it was pretty bad. If this was a Marquis game, people would be roasting him.

Or, to use fangraph, he lowered the Cubs' chances of winning by 14.4% points.

I'll take it as a surprise spot start in the kid's first big league start who hasn't thrown many innings the past 2 weeks.

Excuses

You can call them excuses but under those circumstances, few if any young pitchers would perform well. It's the reality of the situation.

He allowed two runs while he was in the game and left the game in a run-expectancy situation of 1.61. 3.61 ER in 4.33 IP is an era of 7.48. That's a bad day regardless of the weather or recent usage pattern.

I was being sarcastic Cal, as Ive been the one trying to defend Gallaghers outing today. I think Kyle is being a little rough on a guy making his 1st major league start on a moments notice, and saying it was a bad outing. He was cruising for 4 innings, and given the sporadic use of Gallagher, Im not surprised he started running out of gas in the 5th.

Here's my Kool-Aid inspired positive spin on the Chad Fox situation:

Lou is sending a message to Hendry. Lou publicly complains about how bad the bullpen is, and Hendry gives him Chad effing Fox as the solution. Maybe Lou is saying to Hendry: here's your solution, pal, how is that working out for us?

mmmmm, Kool-Aid

My bad, Keener. I read that and assumed it was KyleJRM posting that, not you.

It depresses me how many times I've heard the "manager is using bad players to send a message to Hendry" proposition in the last five seasons.

hendry should send lou a link to the bullpen stats, which show that the bullpen isn't bad at all.

It's been bad when it counts, though. Might have changed in the last few days, but recently we were dead last in expected wins/loss added. The difference between the overall stats and the situation-sensitive stats is why Piniella is the only thing standing in the way of a Cubs division title.

That's ridiculous if Lou really thought that...the guy sucks and shouldn't be on the roster but there's no reason to risk re-injuring his arm to make a point.

I know, but it's just depressing how often this keeps coming up.
