Speaking of Wood, I really enjoyed watching him warm-up in the pen yesterday during the bottom of the 8th and having at least 3 of his pitches wind up somewhere around the Cubs dugout. One almost killed the 3rd base ump, another landed very close to the home plate ump. Not sure if that's standard for his warmups or not, but the Cubs might want to think about adding an extra guy behind the bullpen catcher to stop those.

I love how this guy is nowhere to be found when Wood does well.

I'm sure he's just to busy to be online. The good news is, the next time Wood has a bad outing he'll find the time to sneak his way online.

Nothing's changed..the guy is a choker. Right, Vance?

Lou has babyed this guy by bringing him in with 3+ run leads to try to build his confidence and you would think he learned something. But when the game is on the line, he's too erratic and still throws far too many pitches.

But please feel free Lou to continue to run him out there to appease many here.

And right on Cue.

While I won't call Wood a "sham closer" it is a bit early in the season to record 4 blown saves. But do I think it's better to keep Marmol in his current role than move Carlos to closer. Wood needs to stop putting guys on base.

Marmol has too much value as the guy we can turn to not just in the setup innings, but also whenever there's a high-pressure, guys-on-base situation. But at the same time, I'm not sure Wood should be our closer.

Wood needs to stop hitting the first batter. It's ridiculous/frustrating how he has such a clear pattern of that occuring and then a bad outing. If he doesn't hit the batter, he's almost certainly out of the inning with little to no problem. At this point, if he hits the first batter and Marmol, Wuertz or Howry are available, Lou needs to have one of them start warming up ASAP. It's too obvious a recurring and specific warning sign.

No changes are needed here, Lou.

Closers are over-rated
. Our closer has 3 saves in one run games, with 4 BLOWN SAVES. That's pretty good in their minds.

Aim low, you'll always be satisfied.

Top of my head, I think 50% in 1 run saves is about league average.

Of course, I don't even know why I'm bothering with you.

We may not win w/ Wood but we also will not win w/ Soriano. He is a loser & Lou is catering to him.

All the stars are showing up this evening.

I agree, Soriano has never played on winning teams.

Coincedence that the Yankees stopped winning WS right as he became a regular player? I think not.

You might be on to something. The Rangers and the Nats never won with him either. Can't possibly be a coincidence.

The problem isn't just with hitting the first batter in an inning. IIRC, he now has hit 4 or 5 batters to start an inning and has walked 4 others to start an inning.

But anyone who expected differently was wishing on a star. Wood didn't have the best control as a starter, and when you don't have 2 or 3 innings to work out of it, this kind of sporadic success is to be expected.
