Theriot + Pie for Greene, Cedeno to CF

Fukudome (RF)

Cedeno (CF)

Lee (1B)

Ramirez (3B)

Soto ©

Soriano (LF)

DeRosa (2B)

Greene (SS)

This order makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

EDIT: Heck, throw in Murton too if thats what it takes to get it done, I don't care.

mojo...the losing w/ soriano reconvened today. He sure looked awesome all the way around today.

It's his first game back from the DL.

And are you really talking like the Cubs lost because of Soriano?

Sounds good to me, I mentioned the same thing in the Cedeno for starter thread. If Cedeno can really play CF, I think the trade would help both teams.

Stop harping on strikeouts as if they're somehow worse than other outs. It makes little difference how someone gets out unless they're always hitting into double plays...an out is an out.

Secondly, your final sentence makes absolutely no sense. How will Greene and Soriano "dilute" the OBP of other hitters? That makes absolutely no sense.

Let me ask you, since you have such a boner for OBP and hate strikeouts so much...what do you think of Adam Dunn? Does he make your head implode?[/quote

I'm not arguing whether a strikeout is a worse out than a grounder which can result in moving a runner over but a strikeout is an out...period...that does nothing to move the runners. My point is that he whiffs a ton & has a very low OBP...in fact, sub .300 lifetime. He is a very poor "team hitter". He has more pop than normal at SS but I don't feel that is what this team is lacking. You act like a strikeout is good because it keeps you from a double play. It is if that is the alternative, but it is not.

How will they dilute it? By taking a player out of the lineup that actually takes pitches & gets on base...that's how.

Adam Dunn has a unique style of being a home run hitter that actually gets on base at a high clip. Khalil Greene does not. He's a mini-Soriano. This team does not need Soriano in the lineup, let alone another one.

If .310 is sub .300, then yes, but last time I checked, it wasn't.

his 3-yr is .301. This is certainly subpar. He has a whopping 23 strikeouts this year & no homers to go with his Soriano-esque .216 batting average. He'd fit right in with Soriano. Maybe he should come in & tell Lou he only feels "comfortable" hitting 3rd in the lineup. Then we could be called the Chicago Greene Soriano's. Soriano played horribly yesterday, just like he did most of last year & before his injury this year.

Yes, one of the most valuable players the Cubs had last year played "horribly" for most of it.

Delusional.

I don't know how many times my friends call me to tell me Soriano is worthless last year and this year. But on the other hand they love Theriot!

Maybe I've missed it or just have a faulty memory, I have yet to see any reputable source saying Soriano told Lou he only felt comfortable hitting 1st or otherwise demanded that he hit there. All the reports I read said Lou thought Soriano was most comfortable hitting 1st, but Soriano offered to hit anywhere Lou wanted him.

I hate that we signed him for 8 years and his contract will soon be an albatross for this team, but let's try to calm down a bit.

Just about everything in this post sucks, and is idiotic. (I would rather not hear that this is a personal attack or whatever, it isn't a personal attack, it's just my opinion of this terrible post)

- You first spoke of his career OBP, and now you switch it to his 3-year, and I'm going to ignore that, but it still isn't sub-.300. Sure this is sub par, but this is not your original statement, you tend to exaggerate.

I don't even need to say anything, it's been said at least a million times.

Soriano-esque .216 batting average.

You forgot to mention that he's also being Tulowitzki-esque (actually .065 better), Ryan Howard-esque, Carlos Beltran-esque. I hope that he can continue to be mentioned with these other guys. This should also show you that referencing statistics this early in the season as a reason to get or not get somebody is idiotic.

batting average.
referencing statistics this early in the season

When it comes to batting average, never is the best time to use that statistic.

And we have another appearance of the Pie rumor from BP...

San Diego is becoming increasingly convinced that Jim Edmonds is at the end of the line, and is considering dealing for a younger center fielder. They have an eye on the Cubs’ Felix Pie

If it gets Greene, dooooooooooo it. Then trade for Crisp and platoon him with Johnson.

Yeah...Pie isn't getting playing time anyway... I'd rather get a #2 pitcher though

Posted

Any way we could throw together an offer for Chris Young? Pie, Cedeno, Gallagher?

It would be nice to have a legit number 2 (assuming Lilly doesn't keep at last years level).

I'm not sure people realize how bad Crisp has been since leaving Cleveland.

I'd rather get Willits and let him stand on 1st 40% of the time in front of Lee, Ramirez and co.

Wow, I checked Willits on PECOTA, and it just hates him.

Median projection: .266 .353 .368

90th percentile projection: .299 .394 .426

That's pretty harsh for a guy whose put up a .400 OBP (park and league adjusted) two straight seasons.

IIRC, Willits usually has a high BABIP which i'm sure Pecota doesn't like, even though he has shown an ability to sustain it over the years.

If you do trade Pie for Greene, just call up Fuld to be the platoon partner with Johnson. Fontenot will have to go down, but with Cedeno, Theriot, and DeRosa all on the roster vying for 2B time he's redundant.

Or just use Cedeno in CF full time if he wasn't included for Greene.

Hell at this rate they would probably release Cedeno instead of sending down Fontenot.

That's my biggest fear with a potential Greene trade, it makes a Crisp follow-on seem all but inevitable.

For what it's worth, Paul Sullivan writes on Extra Innings:

The rumored trade of Felix Pie to San Diego for Khalil Greene has not been discussed, Cubs sources said.

Greene's pathetic stats to date notwithstanding, I'd do it in a heartbeat - plus shuffling the deck a bit by moving Fuku to CF, Soriano to RF and Murton/Johnson in LF.

LF Murton/Johnson

CF Fukudome

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

RF Soriano

C Soto

2B DeRosa

SS Greene

Have at it.

Thats kind of counter productive, as we have 4 decent guys we should be able to put a middle infield out of, and center field is the big question mark as far as offensive production gos. I know a lot of people here LOVE Greene, but his numbers are dismal, even for Petco. Id just assume chase Coco Crisp or Milton Bradley, or even sign Kenny "What have I done to deserve forced retirement" Lofton. Anyone of these guys could be a short term answer while we spend another year hoping that next year Felix Pie will break out.
