you are making quite the assumption. you actually believe that a player like theriot will have his OPS jump by 200 points from one season to the next? that is a jump that Barry Bonds barely managed to make from his non-phd to phd using seasons. that is absurd.

NO

THERIOT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD SO FAR

IF HE STINKS IN THE FUTURE LOU CAN BENCH HIM

IF HE DOESNT HE WILL BE THE ONE SCREWING THE TEAM

i think i'll have to type in caps when expressing this simple point as plain text just isn't translating somehow. the cast of characters on here has shown all the nuance of a brick wall.

And the negative plays, including a crucial error and 6/11 SB, have cost us pretty dearly recently. Those plays are fresh in people's minds. Anyway, comparing Theriot to ARod is just baiting people in a game thread when the Cubs are losing to the Nationals.

give me a break. i made reference of the notion that a player could have an empty OPS and ARod was the classic example.

i was clear with my statements. if you read it and took it as an ARod-Theriot comparison, then you should try improving your reading comprehension.

Again, this is a game thread and we're losing to a crappy team. If you don't expect people to take statements like that further than you may have intended, you need to wake up. My reading comprehension is fine, thanks.

We've seen Cubbie baseball as bad as its been in a loooong time 3 of these past 4 games. Alfonso Soriano where art thou?

Hopefully we can squeak out a win in the Brewers series before quietly fading to 4th place in the next few weeks.

LOU WON'T BENCH HIM! I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM PLAY VERY WELL, BUT REALIZE THAT IS AN UNLIKELY SCENARIO.

You are conveniently ignoring the fact that the very situation some of us are fearing HAPPENED LAST YEAR. Who made that decision? Do you need a hint?

ok, now we're getting somewhere. this is good.

the fear is that Piniella is going to make the terrible decision of playing a sub-.650 ops SS everyday when there is another clearly superior option. and that surely would be a terrible decision. but what nobody realizes apparently, is that you're all really early with the criticisms as the kid is at .870 or whatever now and has been an asset for us this season.

you're jumping the gun with the bashing, and it's directed at the wrong party.

i've been thrilled that both ronny and theriot have been producing, but i realize that puts me in the minority. i guess i'm the twisted type of fan that enjoys it when players are performing well.

He had 1/2 a good month followed by 2 1/2 of being bad, then he had 1 good month which bought him 2 months (the stretch drive, no less) of being flat out awful. Who was the manager?

And there was no effort whatsoever to upgrade the SS this winter, so apparently Hendry/Lou didn't see Theriot's dismal play as an issue, saying that they thought "he just wore down".

So you'll have to forgive some of us for not believing Lou will pull the plug when the time comes.

Meanwhile, you have Cedeno (a guy with real talent, no less) finally getting it together. But you know when Soriano comes back, he's headed back to the bench, even though Theriot's play is already starting to tail off. Some of us are a tad irritated because you don't need a crystal ball to see what is going to happen.

Fukudome 3 for his last 20 I believe.

This will be our first losing homestand/road trip

Homestand 1: 3-3

Road trip 1: 4-2

Homestand 2: 7-1

Roadtrip 2: 2-3

Every team goes through little stretches like this, especially on the road. They get to go home and regroup on their off day tomorrow and will still be 16-9 and in first. I'm disappointed with their performance today, but it's not the end of the world.

anyone else find it interesting the Theriot would play the whole game at SS with Cedeno at 2B, then, in the 9th, Fontenot would replace Theriot defensively, but move to 2B? That implies that Cedeno is the better SS, right? Am I losing my mind or is this stupid?

Well at least Marmol will get a well deserved 3 days of rest.

Yeah and it looks like good Wuertz is back too so maybe we can continue to keep him fresh. The bullpen in general should be well rested for these big series. lining>
