why pitching change?

 

Lou is babying Rich.

We have 12 guys in the pen, and Lieber and Marshall haven't done much recently, and Rich is a guy whose success is often related to his confidence. I'm not applauding the move but I certainly understand it.

 

 

Yeah, while I don't totally like the move, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't really like Lieber in for only three batters though.

Gotta be frustrating for a Pirates fan watching your player make a grab like that when they make habit of botching even the most routine of defensive plays.

 

 

 

I have no doubt. What I don't like is his K's, which are unusual for him.

 

If turning a few groundouts or flyouts into strikeouts is the price we pay for his newfound patience, it is a price I would pay gladly. If he starts hitting like the old Aramis, but keeps his new walk rate, he's a much better player.

That's where we miss Eyre. He was the pitcher we had that specialized in eating.

The very quick use of Lieber, Marshall and then Ward is why I probably would have left Rich in the game. That way, assuming Rich gets through the 6th with no damage, you use just Ward and have two more pitchers in the bullpen.
