I don't think the Cavs and Raptors are worse than last year. The East got better which makes them look worse.

Eastern Conference composite records:

2006-07: 583-647

2007-08: 582-648

1 game worse this year.

Considering how much better Boston and Orlando are, and the fairly safe assumption that 9 teams in the West were better than everyone in the East aside from Boston, Detroit and Orlando, it's not a far cry to say most of the East got worse.

EDIT: Although, one could say the improvement of Boston and Orlando were countered by the collapse of Chicago and Miami, so the overall performance was about the same.

The west got better too. But we were talking about how the Easy got better with respect to the Bulls, not the whole NBA.

Surprised there's no talk of the Wiz/Cavs game last night. LeBron is still a drama queen and DeShawn Stevenson is still a maniac. I'd like to see that go 7.

The Celtics/Hawks game was predictable. It would be cool to see the Hawks take them to 7, but they'll get killed if they get there.

Here comes David Stern with his [expletive] scheduling once again..

Game 1 for the Spurs-Hornets second round series is scheduled to start on Saturday. Also on Saturday is a potential Game 7 for Detroit and Philadelphia. On Sunday, potential Game 7's are for Atlanta-Boston, Washington-Cleveland and Utah-Houston. So that means if Utah and Houston go the distance, the Lakers' second round series won't start until at least Tuesday, three days after the other Western first round series starts.

I'm still reeling from LeBron's suit in the post-game presser.

Atlanta forces Game 7 in Boston on Sunday. What an epic meltdown this would be...between the Patriots losing the Super Bowl and a potential Celtics one & done after 66 wins....wow.

Not that I expect Boston to lose on Sunday.

They lose at home, in game 7, Bill Simmons will kill himself.

This is as good of thread as any. Kobe Bryant has reportedly won the MVP award.

Hm...go Hawks then.

(I don't hate Simmons all that much, and I enjoyed his book, but since then he's become a Grade A weiner.)

I am rooting heavily for the Hawks this series. This is karma for the Boston fans. For awhile it looked like they were going to hold all three titles at the same time.

Really New Orleans? You need a ring of fire to entertain you between quarters of a second round playoff game?

all i heard was a 19 minute delay. did the sprinklers go off?

saw a quick replay: i cant see a mascot going through a ring of fire and not think of frank the tank

Mascot jumps through ring of fire to dunk. He was ok. They couldn't put out the ring of fire with CO2 and they ended up having to use a fire extinguisher which got that stuff on the court and took 19 minutes to clean it up.

I think of Scrubs when I hear ring of fire. Poor Sasha.

i really like david west. Besides being incredibly underrated, anytime there's any kind of physical contact with chris paul, he immediately gets in between cp3 and the other player.

If Charles Oakley still played, something tells me Bruce Bowen would have been killed by this point.

Seriously, that hip check on Paul was about as blatant as it gets.

Why does the NBA start second round games before first round games are over? That is just weird!

It's a byproduct of spacing out the playoffs games so far. In baseball, the difference between a 4 game series and a 7 game series is 4 days. In basketball, the difference is 8 days.

David Stern insists that every single playoff game is on national TV, that's why

I remember one year the Celtics were up 2-0 in the Championship and the Lakers hadn't won the West yet.
