Nice to see Phillips out, but I wish Corey could be in there for one last round of shame at Wrigley today. Would have been fun to see him go 0 for Double Digits in Chicago.

reds44's claim that Corey makes good contact has been under much suspicion this series

He's been awful, there is no denying that.

He's something around 1 for his last 20. I guess he rememberd he is Corey Patterson.

You would think with Corey's recent struggles at the top of the lineup, Dusty would move him to the 3 hole to try to get him started. That would be a logical move that has worked in the past...

If we manage to pull off a win with this pitching matchup tomorrow, we might have to abolish the "blame CT" shtick forever.

i dunno, considering how long that particular "shtick" has been going on, i just dont see it going away...it's a NSBB tradition

Looks like Dusty hasn't completely fine tuned his "give up" lineup yet. All he needs to do is replace Griffey with Hatteberg or something and then it looks good.

Remember Dusty forfeit lineups often times lead to inexplicable offensive outbursts.

Especially with the wind blowing out and Lilly on the mound.

And prolonged usage of Todd Hollandsworth's, Neifi's, and the Jose Macias' of the world. Often these outbursts can be more crippling to a Dusty team in the long-term than if they fail.

0-9 is pretty solid, though. Gotta leave some room for improvement.

0-11 next time he's back.

This consummate professional who has no funny pictures of himself on the internet:

I beg to differ.

Hey, I like that clip of Lilly. If you're going to get beat in the playoffs, freak out over it. And if you're going to freak out over it, do it right on the mound in front of a national audience.

Have to admit, I don't understand the bizarre schadenfreude towards Corey Patterson. The Cubs' management screwed with his development, he had an awful injury in 2003 when he was just starting to get it, he contributed well in 2004, and then somehow became the poster boy for everything that was wrong with the team from 2005 on.

It's a lot easier to Boo a player than an entire organization. That and he never tried to change his approach at the plate.

He was one of the Cubs most hyped position prospects in the last 20 years and he sucked for the most part. Felix looks like he's on the same path, except Felix appears to be much more willing to change and accept a more limited role as long as the team is winning. Prediction: even if Felix sucks more than Corey, he won't get as much grief because of his good attitude.

I'm hoping for a low scoring game with both Volquez and Lilly pitching well. Volquez will leave after the 7th with the game tied at one and then the Reds bullpen will blow it.

Boys, this is how life is supposed to be:

A day off of work, day baseball at Wrigley, the game on WGN, beautiful weather.... the only thing that could make this better is a Cubs win.

I am certainly loving life right now.

I don't really understand it either. I always liked Corey. He was the poster boy, if only for his awful approach, which management encouraged for years, and when they finally decided to try something different they tried preaching nonsense like more bunting. The warning signs were quite clear with him for years, guys like Rob Neyer repeatedly talked about how unlikely it would be for him to develop. But I still held out hope.

I really don't get the booing. I understand booing a poorly performing team, or a jerk opponent, or even a very good opponent that kills your team. But booing Corey seems rather pointless.

I don't see the point in booing guys like Neifi either. Jacque Jones is a little different, since he made the foolish mistake of whining about fans from the opening week. But I still wouldn't boo him.

People shouldn't be booing Corey. They should be booing this club, which doesn't have a clue how to develop a young hitter.
