This game we look horrible. I'm trying to avoid over reacting, but after May, our schedule gets harder. Two games isn't a big deal, but if we don't turn it around by the end of the weekend, I will be concerned.

Not only that, but what did they say 40% of our home games are in April and May, while 60% are in June, July, August, September? We better get our crap together now so that we aren't facing a slew of tough road games to gain ground back.

The overreation needs to simmer down---.

Why do people get all up in arms over fans getting upset over slow starts? It's the same thing every year. Slow start, MAN THIS SUCKS, hey calm down it's early, mediocre finish. Oh wait, it's too late.

Why can't Cubs fans, of all fans, get jumpy over the opening series? What's the big freaking deal? Saying this needs to stop isn't going to stop it.

Slow starts doesn't happen to the Cubs every yr. The Cubs got off to a 5-3 START in 2006, and finished April 13-10. In 2005, the Cubs fiish April with a 12-11 record. In 2004, the Cubs finished April 13-9. In 2003, the Cubs had their worst April (between 2003-2008) going 8-16. I've you the fact these starts aren't blistering, BUT....there not slow starts either. So, IMO the slow starts are individual players, not the team, per se.

I am a concern, but then I realize there are 160 MORE GAMES left in the season, and my concern subsides.

That's fine and all, but why does it bother you if other fans don't work the same way? People freak out over a loss in game 43, 92, 162, and 2. Saying "it needs to stop" isn't going to make it stop.

Because not everyone takes as much joy in being miserable as you do.

Just because I don't get anxious after two games, I am automatically put in the "miserable" group? Sorry, that dog won't hunt. I am frustrated at the Cubs right now, but for gawd sake...IT'S ONLY THE 2ND GAME OF THE YR. Give it a rest. I don't like to yell, and there will be time for the "omigod the world is falling" attitude later in the yr, but not in April. This team is a good team, and they will get it going.

I don't understand why you'd be willing to use Howry now, but not to start the inning, when they were down "just" 3 and had 4 straight RH bats coming to the plate.

Yeah, there was a breakdown in critical thinking there.

I know, we have to play the Brewers, Astros, Cards, Reds, Pirates, Nats, Braves, Mets, Phillies, Marlins, Rockies, D-Backs, Dodgers, Padres, and Giants. We're screwed.

Nothing worth winning comes easy........, or some such nonsense.

It's the NL, last I checked.

A two-spot would be nice.

So we lose by 2 instead of 4?

I'm just trying to be realistic. At least we'll have a manageable shot in the 9th.

I know. If we had to face more AL teams, wed really be screwed.

And still lose...

Ramirez and Soriano start out the season 0-15.

Ramirez and Soriano went 2-26 in the playoffs.

In their last 5 games that count, Ramirez and Soriano have gone 2-41 (.049).

I know that stat means nothing, but its funny to look at anyways.

The NL seems to be doing a number on us right now.

So can we finish this last inning quickly. I don't want to wait around a long time for this loss.

Yeah lets get the traffic out of Wrigleyville before I hit that area on my commute home.

Uhh the Cubs were 15-12 in April 2003..

I was wrong. tHAT 8-16 START was in 2002, so my bad. And I went back over the 2003 start, and the Cubs went 14-12, don't count the March 31st game.

But my point remains the same, this "slow start" myth needs to be thrown out the door.
