WTF? Kendall just hit the ball off the wall. He never came close to that last year. I hate baseball.

Come on now, he did hit that one home run.

Good thing Howry hasn't decided to throw anything other than a fastball. Awesomeness.

That's all he throws.

I know, that's why I said it. Glad to see he used his offseason well. Using 1 pitch is great when you are completely warm and on top of your control Maddux style, but when you're just a bit off, you get pounded, especially against a team that you face 18+ times per year. Helps explain his putrid starts most every year.

Oh well, he figured it out last year and most years in his career, I would imgaine he can do it again. But, it would be nice if he could mix it up a bit when his control is off a bit.

Figures. Pie gets a completely pressure free AB here and he gets overmatched on 4 pitches.

You know what P-I-E is halfway to spelling?

There are probably 43 different responses to my question, but I am only looking for one in particular.

When is the last time we won the first series of the season?

2008 - 0-2 vs. Milwaukee

2007 - 1-2 vs. Cincinnati

2006 - 1-1 vs. Cincinnati

2005 - 1-2 vs. Arizona

2004 - 1-2 vs. Cincinnati

2003 - 2-1 vs. New York

2002 - 1-2 vs. Cincinnati

2001 - 1-2 vs. Montreal

2000 - 1-1 vs. New York (Japan)....if you don't count that 0-3 vs. St. Louis

So we are 1-6-2 in Opening Series in this decade.

It's game two, people. You have one of the most talented teams in baseball.

If you are competing to make the playoffs, 14-12 isn't going to cut it most years. That will give you 87 wins on the year at that pace. It may cut it the other years, but 14-12 certainly isn't a "fast start" It's more like a "barely adequate playoff pace" start.

The 2004 Cardinals started the season 10-11, and went on to win 105 games.

So thats what happens when 2 combustible forces meet.

Huh? When did I say a slow start dooms you. I said we never get off to great starts.

I appreciate the sentiments wolf, but I came into this season doubting that. How are we so amazingly talented? Just because every TV baseball person says it doesn't mean its true.
