If you are competing to make the playoffs, 14-12 isn't going to cut it most years. That will give you 87 wins on the year at that pace. It may cut it the other years, but 14-12 certainly isn't a "fast start" It's more like a "barely adequate playoff pace" start.

The 2004 Cardinals started the season 10-11, and went on to win 105 games.

Huh? When did I say a slow start dooms you. I said we never get off to great starts.

Huh?

I'm saying what does my comment have to do with the Cardinals start in 2005.

It's game two, people. You have one of the most talented teams in baseball.

Please, please try not to be absurd.

He can't help it. He thinks the Expos still exist.

Lou just said he'll put Soriano back in the lead-off spot tomorrow with Theriot in the 2-hole.

I appreciate the sentiments wolf, but I came into this season doubting that. How are we so amazingly talented? Just because every TV baseball person says it doesn't mean its true.

Yeah I'm not getting it either. We have some good players and some really bad ones too. I never agreed with the predictions being heaped on us from the beginning. We've always had a very solid chance of being unseated by the Brewers. That was true until the final couple days of last season, and it remains true now.

It should be decent ballclub. I don't see greatness here, on the whole.

I can't believe I am going to agree with a Card fan, but I guess it had to happen.

wolf, I've been saying the same thing. Losing two to the frakking Brewers is embarrassing, and what's humilating is that it doesn't even look like they give a crap. But the overeaction crowd is in FULL FORCE after two games. So apparently, the MLB season is only 5-10 games long, because if you listen to quite a few people here on this board, you would believe that most believe the season is over.

Take a CHILL PILL, members of the "Overreaction Crowd." Just relax, they WILL get it going.

They should still be able to match last seasons win total and maybe flirt with 90. Which basically is what you said.

Yes, thats exactly what I was saying. Except, the team on paper feels like an 83-85 win team. Obviously Hendry will make a move at some point, but who knows if said move will actually improve the club.

Just watching the highlights now. Soto looked like complete crap behind the dish today.

I'm still not sold that Soto's '07 wasn't a fluke.

Yep, that's fine. Might not be enough to make the playoffs this year though.

The Cubs could somehow invent a time machine, go back and kidnap the 1927 Yankees, bring them to today, start every single one of them, and they'd still underperform, simply because they were Cubs.

Without having read any of the thread, I'm guessing there is at least one person that's declared the season over without an ounce of sarcasm.

The unflattering playoff performance should have told you that changes were needed. We made one real change in adding fuko & are batting him out of position. There are multiple holes on this team & it is obvious that Hendry does not know how to put the parts together to make a strong team. I was not counting on soto being yet another hole but watching kendall throw out every cub runner & soto being run on at will was ironic.

Jesus Christ, guys! Calm down. It's just game two.

Now when we lose tomorrow, I'm going to be crapping bricks.

The next two series vs the Astros and Pirates should give us an ounce of hope.

Yeah, we need something to get the engines started here. We're stuck in neutral, Jesus.
