Bruce, Lou mentioned during the broadcast that Fukudome is prob. going to end up hitting back in the 2nd spot and possibly Soriano hitting 3rd and shifting Lee and Ramirez down.

While I don't like Theriot leading off, moving Fukudome to second and slotting Soriano either third or fifth would be an improvement.

Personally, I like the idea of Fukudome leading off, DeRosa hitting second with Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez following in no particular order and Theriot hitting eighth. I doubt that would ever happen, but that might be what I'd look at.

With Lou, all things are written in pencil. :D

Yeah, that'll change by the end of the broadcast. While I haven't many games this Spring, I assuming their poor play defensively (Ward not keeping the glove down, Murton stuck in no man's land on the triple, and Soto with the lazy spell) this game is the exception?

Tim Kurukijianjdsaninwwhfij on ESPN just said it was gonna be Fuku 2nd and Sori 3rd

I must have been listening to the other Tim Kurukijianjdsaninwwhfij, but I thought he said either Fukudome or Soriano would bat 5th

Cool. Ryan Theriot will come to the plate approximately 60-80 more times than Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez. I can't wait to count the times Theriot makes the last out in a game, also.

Lou blames all of this nonsense on Pie:

"Actually, if I didn't have a left-handed hitting center fielder [Pie] in the eighth hole, the 1 hole would be a nice position for Fukudome.''

Lou, FTH?

He could easily solve that by batting Theriot 8th.

SS DeRosa?

Or Robers. Roberts used to be a SS, both of them started as SS in the minors. DeRosa has 349 games played at SS in the minors.

I maintain, and logic dicates, that there are reasons that neither player's team(s) have given them anything more than emergency time at shortstop in many years.

I think it's because at first they both played on teams where they were blocked at SS, and then after a while they their skills at short stop were just forgotten.

BP on DeRosa back in 2001, just after his first season of real PT in the majors, "he's not an offensive disaster and can definitely play shortstop", I think he is capable of being an every day SS, and coming into last year he was just as qualified if not more qualified than Theriot to be a regular SS, and that's what we are doing now. If the alternative is Theriot, then I don't see how you can make an arguement for not letting DeRosa at least try, not only offensively where it's obvious, but I also doubt that Theriot is really all that much better at defense at short than DeRosa.

Well, maybe not Roberts, but at least DeRosa. After looking it up, I found Roberts was given a shot to be the SS his first year, but then the O's chose to play him at 2nd, but I still think DeRosa could be the SS.

The first year that DeRosa was only used as an emergency guy at SS was last year.

Lou needs to take a deep breath and take a step back. At this rate, he'll have determined that none of the possible lineup combinations will work based on a few Spring Training ABs by Opening Day.

Funny, sad, and true.

Man, Cubs have to get Roberts now to save Lou from himself.

Seriously, I've been against the Roberts trade, but I don't know if I can tolerate watching Theriot lead off every day.
