Falcons cut Alge Crumpler, Byron Leftwich, Wayne Gandy, Rod Coleman and a couple other players today.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3247718

I see no good reason why the Titans shouldn't sign Alge. He is 30(ish), but he's shown he can be a primary target with no other good receiving options and he's used to the style of QB Vince is (considering Vince and Vick are so similar). He'll cost some money, but he'd be well worth it, plus it would free up the first pick for a receiver like Limas Sweed or perhaps a defensive end.

Get it done, Reinfeldt.

The only two I was surprised about were Coleman and Crumpler, obviously there is no need for Leftwich now, and Gandy is a 37 year old offensive lineman that would probably lose his job to one of the O-Lineman we pick in the draft. We had major problems at DT last year in the 4-3 with Coleman as the only average player playing at DT, now we have to find two good DT's. Crumpler did not play too well this season, part of that was the QB situation, part of that is eroding skills, but was a little disgruntled last year, with the rebuilding that came along, so he probably would have been very disgruntled this year, with a lot of young players around him. The new GM, that is part of the patriots tree, did not want to take that chance

Man. I know it's a business, and it's a move that makes sense, but Zach being released seriously breaks my heart.

He took it so well too. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried to trade Jason Taylor too.

I actually was only really surprised by them cutting Alge. Coleman's still a solid DT, but he's getting older and it's pretty clear Dimitroff is set on rebuilding (a good idea). If Alge was disgruntled, though, it makes much more sense.

Most of Crumpler's problems with the team were with Petrino. He felt Petrino was not doing all the could do to do win the games, playing young players over more skilled veterans, basically throwing the season for the future (which he is not going to be a part of).

Interesting. It seems his complaints would have only increased this year since it appears Dimitroff is going full steam ahead with rebuilding.

Works for me, now the Titans need to sign Alge. :D

Yes! The Titans are apparently showing interest in Alge! =D>

I have heard from the Titans, and Tennessee is very attractive to him

Also, the Titans tagged Haynesworth (as expected). They're currently working out a long term deal apparently - hopefully it gets done soon.

Maybe now we can get a pair of reliable hands for Vince to throw to.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I wouldn't expect Alge to be a big play receiver, just a reliable receiver to get open and actually catch the ball when Vince is accurate.

Now if we got Roy Williams, I'd be looking for some big plays down the field. =P~

I wouldn't count on Crumpler to be a consistent set of hands for Vince to throw to. One of the things that cost him his job was that he has had a serious case of the drops over the past year and a half or so.

He did struggle with drops last year, but the year before he caught 56 passes - good for ninth best among all tight ends. The ones ahead of him? Kellen Winslow, Todd Heap, Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey, Jason Witten, Randy McMichael and Chris Cooley.

Winslow had 32 more catches than Alge and everybody else had less than 20 more. The closest Titan tight end to him in receptions that year was Bo Scaife with 29.

By his standards he had a terrible year last year (thanks in large part to the three headed monster of Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich and Chris Redman throwing to him) and still caught just four less passes (42) than Scaife (46) - the Titans leading receiver at tight end. And that's in 14 games.

If he duplicated his year from two 2006 (56 catches), he'd have led the team in receptions last year. I couldn't find his drop numbers, but I'll take that from my tight end.

Packers' franchise Corey Williams and cut Bubba Franks.

Williams said he wouldn't care if he was franchised, so it looks like it's a good move for both ends. Releasing Franks isn't too big of a surprise, but now that leaves us with only one NFL legitimate TE. I hope we get in on the Crumpler sweepstakes.

Colts franchised Dallas Clark, then signed him to a six-year deal. They also resigned OG Ryan Lilja to a four-year deal.

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080220/SPORTS03/80220065

Lilja's is a 5 year deal (20 million). Clark has reportedly received a 6 year, 36 million dollar deal.

There is no word yet on if those deals are backloaded, but my guess is they are. Lilja's will probably be essentially a 3 year deal and Clark a 4 year deal when the details come out. And now I'm seeing some people report on other boards that Lilja's deal is essentially that. His signing bonus is mostly at the start of his deal, and if he gets cut after year 3 it won't cost that much.

Yeah, five-years my bad. You heard anything about the Colts being interested in Crumpler? I don't know if that was just pre-Clark signing scuttlebutt, but another TE could be useful.

I've heard of the interest. I definitely think another TE could be useful, especially if Harrison misses any other time. I just don't know if Crumpler will demand too much money, and I'm worried about his drops in the Colts offense stalling drives more than his playmaking ability helping them.

Obviously, the Colts rarely enter the free agent market. I honestly don't know how much money Crumpler will demand. If he doesn't command too much, I could see the Colts pursuing him. TE is a key position in the offense and Polian values it as such. I like Clark a lot, but he does have a tendency to take big hits. I'm ecstatic about signing Clark, but would still like another TE.

Panthers franchised Jordan Gross and are supposedly shopping DeShaun Foster (about effing time).
Foster was waived on Thursday. I saw that on the Raleigh CBS station.

The New York Giants are rumored to have completed a deal Thursday Night at St. Elmo's Steak House to send pick number 31 to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for disgruntled, but talented, cornerback DeAngelo Hall. Again, that's a hot rumor, but our main source has not confirmed it yet.

he later says that dallas might use its second first-rounder for hall
