Mendenhall is going to be a stud, dag nabbit I wish the Bears didnt have such a need at Oline.

Oline problems shouldn't even be a factor IMO. If you have a chance to draft a stud like Mendallhall, you have to do it. The Bears have a lot of issues, but Rome wasn't build in a day, and they can't fix it all this offseason. Draft the best avialable players. That is how I would roll at least.

I would normally agree but with the Oline playing such a major part in how a RB or QB play, you have to address the Oline problem.

But this is such a deep draft for OLine, specifically tackle, isn't it? You might be able to get late first round quality in the 3rd round. I think you take a Mendenhall, too.

I like Nicks from Nebraska. I would shoot for him in round 2.

It is a deep draft for Oline, and if the Bears only needed 1 guy then Id have no problem waiting. However they need multiple guys on the Oline(unless they sign Faneca, which I doubt) and they cant really take a chance at somebody being there later on. With that said, I am biased towards Shard, and wouldnt be upset to have him on the Bears.

Smith from UCF was pretty impressive today. He looks like a poor man's Adrian Peterson.
The Bears already have the poor man's Adrian Peterson. :D

My feelings exactly. Just because the Oline depth is weak doesn't mean we can avoid taking one until the 2nd or 3rd round. With two players gone, it is an extreme need that will improve the play of the whole offense. Even is 'Shard were able to play right out of the gate, he would do terribly with our offense line.

I don't mind Clark. He's been a solid since 2006. I do hope that Olsen will see more snaps next year, though.

olsen should be playing more of the slot next year.

It's pretty safe to say Olsen will see a lot of time in the slot next season. His athleticism and speed needs to be taken advantage of.

you don't mind him?

He's good, "minding him" shouldn't even be an option.

I like pretty much everything they've done so far this offseason. Clark and Olsen are both good receivers. I'm fine with Grossman, Orton and a draft pick (2nd, or preferrably, 3rd round or later) taking QB duties. I don't like the talk of possibly 4 QBs, unless the 3rd and 4th are both non Griese. Nothing against Brian, but if you are bringing back Orton and Rex, there's no value in Griese this year. I wish they'd get rid of Archuleta, although I'm still a little unsure about how his contract affects the cap.

He's good. I just want Olsen getting the majority of the snaps next year. He's been pretty good the last two years (a big 180 from his past years, partly due to Grossman using him as more of a weapon in 2006). I certainly prefer Clark getting time over Gilmore, obviously, and I see the great position we're in having that tandem at TE. I just want Olsen to be the #1 option at the position.

Clark has been good since coming to the Bears team, probably since he's been in the league. Any lack of numbers was due more to the team than him. He's good, and fairly compensated. The clamoring for improvement at TE was always overblown. But now that they are both on the team, neither should take time away from the other.

Olsen is the better receiving TE, Clark is the better all-around TE. If only one of them is in, defenses will be able to easily know Olsen is in for a pass play, while Clark's presence gives no indication run or pass. I think the majority of snaps should include both players. Whether it's at the expense of a WR or FB doesn't matter. They are two of the Bears best offensive players, and need to be used properly.

I think Clark was dropping a few more passes and a few more fumbles in his earlier years. He's definitely a solid all-around TE, and represents a very good market pickup. Am I crazy for still hoping Olsen will become a decent blocker?

Probably. He'll never be an asset there. He'll be effective in a doubleteam with an OT or even w/ a RB chipping. That being said, there are plenty of TEs who aren't good blockers who are value to their teams (Dallas Clark, Winslow).

I read an article this weekend, where Angelo suggested some of his draft flops were due to character, so now that will be the primary focus going foward. Hello reaches.

I'm still trying to figure out last year when he traded down(passed on Ugoh) and drafted Dan Bazuin.

this offseason is gonna be a disaster.

Sadly, yes. It's the Bears. The can screw up even a lock draft pick.

Except that Angelo has done pretty much everything we've all suggested so far.

]• The Bears' Plan A doesn't look like it involves pursuing big-ticket free agents, and by the time they get to Plan B, those players will be gone. One representative of what would be considered a second-tier free agent contacted the Tribune about a specific player because, in his words, "the word is the Bears aren't going after the name guys."

It looks like we will not be going after Faneca.
