Berrian is not worth the money he received. This team has deep threat receivers, what they need is consistent possession receivers who can catch the ball in traffic. Moose couldn't get open and Berrian didn't consistently catch the ball.

the #'s the news up here reported were 6 yrs, $20 mil garanteed. thats not far from Angelo offered. If they were that close, what stopped the Bears? the garanteed money? seems like BB got a resonable deal.

Angelo offered 8 million in guaranteed money. If Berrian really received 20 million guaranteed, the two sides weren't even close to the same ballpark.

1) I cant spell "guaranteed"

2) I'm really not sure what I heard on the news. But $20 mil over 6 years is $3.3 per year guaranteed. IDK how the Vikings structured the contract, or howmuch more is possible in the contract, but that starting point doesnt seem like alot to me.

3) It worries me more that his replacement wont be someone of any known caliber. Bradley? I was a huge fan of the draft pick, but he hasnt done anything and cant seem to unseat the terrible BB "who isnt worth the money". Walker? The guy is a about kin to a Civil War Vet by now. Moss? no way we spend that money.

I am just frustrated. I would be happier if we were in a Fitzgerald sweepstakes, but Angelo is just sitting on his hands.

Wow. I figured there was still a shot at re-signing him, but I'm shocked that it happened so quickly.

I think Berrian is much more replaceable

color me skeptical. at least we had Williams. who replaces BB?

time will tell. I just dont want to sit here and take all the "points and laughs" from my friends if and when BB scores on us

maybe Mike Brown will take him out or something...

Trib[/url]"]Briggs couldn't reveal all the details of the deal but said it was front-ended and comparable to the other top linebackers in the league.

Let's hope he stays healthy and this turns into a pretty team-friendly deal down the line.

Looks like Drew got BB his money:

Early peek at Berrian's numbers with the Vikings

It sounds like some small details may still be worked out, but agent Drew Rosenhaus got Bernard Berrian substantially closer to the money he was seeking Saturday afternoon than was on the table for him Friday night.

Word is Berrian will collect $42 million over the six years of the deal and be paid $23 million in the first three seasons.

Berrian was seeking $24.5 million over the first three years of a contract.

I am now officially PRAYING Mark Bradley pans out

Especially with the Bears having tweaked their scheme slightly in order to take advantage of the strengths of their linebackers, I like the 6 for 36 million deal for Briggs a lot better than trying to match the 6 for 42 million deal that Berrian got. While I still believe the position he plays helps Briggs in looking better than he actually is, I also believe that he is a very good player that will be very close to if not worth that extension, and that made it a very smart move for the Bears.

Wow, did the Vikings ever overpay for Berrian.

Still, it leaves us with a horrible WR corps, which means our offense is likely to suck next year. We still need to draft OLine, we can't fill 2 OLine positions + WR + RB all for the '08 season.

It all spells.....2 year rebuild plan.

Plus, got to remember -- now we're starting to talk about Urlacher getting older, less healthy. It's starting to get very dicey around here.

Still, $23mil over 3 years for a #2 receiver? That's ridiculous.

I culd be convinced of Bryant Johnson. he has had some good games, when he gets in. same for Bradley really. and hester can burn anyone

He got $16M guaranteed. Was he overpaid? Yeah, but he was the top WR on the market outside of Moss so he was going to get paid in that neighborhood. We were desperate for a WR like him. I don't think it's a terrible deal.
