i wonder if the offers to briggs and berrian are legit offers or are offers for the bears to say they made an offer if they bolt town.

I think they'll be legit offers. With uncertainty regarding Urlacher's health and Moose's release (and Bradley's inability to stay healthy and/or get out of Lovie's dog house), it seems likely (to me) that the Bears will strongly desire to retain Berrian and Briggs.

The highest cap number for a safety in 2007? The Bears’ Adam Archuleta at $5.095 million. Archuleta’s base salary for 2008 is $730,000 as the bulk of his money has already come.
if this is true, i can see angelo keeping archuleta if he's only costing them 730k. i'm for cutting him, for no other reason than to send a message to the organization. if you suck, you're gone.

Archuleta at this point provides no value to the team. Maybe he could do something on special teams, but he essentially is unable to do anything that the safety position requires. I don't see either Angelo or Lovie wanting to hold on to crap because it's cheap.

he's absolutely terrible, i'm just unsure why he wasn't cut yesterday.

AA can toss passes to the other safeties in practice, that's about it. It pains me to say it because he's obviously a nice guy, but if you can't play you can't play. Maybe Comcast has a job for him or something.

Not sure why he wasn't cut but at the same time I don't think these are the last of the cuts anyway.

I'd imagine they're legit, as well. Berrian's may be closer to what he's looking for than the Briggs offer, though, but hopefully they can get the others wrapped up quickly.

Good news so far, though.

Is there a "splash" to be made at WR via Free Agency other than Randy Moss?

stallworth might be available.

I'm available too. I don't do windows.

Rumors circulating that Marvin Harrison may be a cap casualty for the Colts, depending on how they feel his knee will recover. Don't know how much truth is to that one, but that's a lot more than a splash. I think I heard already that he is out for training camp at least.

Harrison's cap hit would actually probably be a little higher if he was cut then if he wasn't with his guaranteed money left. It's not happening. And I haven't heard a word about timetables for him. He'll restructure his contract, but he's not getting cut.

And the best free agent OL continue to return to their old teams - G Ryan Lilja re-signed with with the Colts. :x

Also, like we figured would happen, Jordan Gross was franchised by the Panthers. FA options are dwindling by the day. Our first pick almost HAS to be an OT.

So far so good for Angelo. I would like to at least hear they have/had interest in the top OL free agents though. Looks like Angelo is looking to the draft for the OL help.

I know you said free agency, but Chad Johnson is out there trade-wise...but I seriously doubt that Angelo would want to give up the necessary draft picks.

EDIT: http://walterfootball.com/free2008WR.php

Berrian is ranked 2nd after Moss.

I think Chad is most likely staying in Cincinnatti. There have been rumors that he and Steve Smith would be available, but I suspect both will remain.

Most likely the best receiver available via trade is Roy Williams.
