Will this allow them to pay Berrian?

don't want berrian for the price he'd command. i like the idea of faneca, but the guards weren't the big problem. the tackles were. miller needs to go and tait needs to go back to rt.

They were? Ruben Brown wasn't very good when he was in there. When he got hurt, they were abysmal in his spot. Garza has never been anything special.

The guard play was pretty bad last year. They weren't the biggest problem, but I'd welcome Faneca.

I like both of these moves, btw.

while i don't remember the running back getting many yards between the tackles, i really don't remember fred miller or john tait getting their hands on opposing defensive ends. really, tait is more aof a guard himself, the man has no instincts anymore at tackle.

I still feel he'll be OK at RT, but I fear you are right and he'll suck at tackle period. Which would be disappointing, and really set back our plans to field a solid OLine any time soon. Finding two T's + a OG ?? Then you have to worry about Kreutz pretty soon too. Wow, we're talking major overhaul here, and we have other needs.

Yay, my first request has been granted. Nice to see somebody sees how awful he was this year, even if the coaches insisted on starting him every game for not good reason.

Dude, where have you been?

Looks like the Bears want to keep Grossman and Benson (although JA doesn't seem to be ruling out adding another RB) around and just revamp the line(s).

Will the Bears try to re-sign Rex Grossman [who’s due to become an unrestricted free agent Feb. 29], and if so, when do you anticipate the negotiations will begin if they haven’t already?

We would definitely like to have Rex back. We’ve talked internally, and at some point we will visit with him and see if we can create a situation that’s workable for all of us. We’ve invested a lot in Rex, and we see him competing for the starting position. Given the familiarity that he has with our system and us with him, there’s no downside. He’s been a good soldier for us in terms of whatever role we’ve asked him to play, particularly this past season. We feel that having him in the mix makes us a better football team.

Without a good offensive line, it doesn’t matter who plays quarterback or running back. How much of a priority is bolstering the line this offseason and what are your plans in that area?

Gary

Virginia Beach, Virginia

It’s going to be a high priority this offseason, and we’ll look both in the draft and free agency to continue to create competition and upgrade the best we can. We’re very focused on our offensive and defensive lines.

Well I guess I'm gonna stop posting in WCFB then.

And join the monster offseason thread!

I for one, am very happy with the cuts. I'm looking for some awesome OL help in the draft, no way can they afford to pick RB or QB first.

Maybe they'll even trade the first round down for second and third rounders.

This just in from Rotoworld:

Sources tell the Chicago Sun Times that the Bears are not expected to sign free agent Marty Booker.

The Bears better have something up their sleeve or their WR corps will be largely unproven. Booker would've at least added experience after Muhsin Muhammad's release. Chicago could be gearing up to make one last run at Bernard Berrian. The Sun Times calls Dallas a possible suitor for Booker.

I tend to agree with them, JA better have something juicy cooking.

Yeah, but Marty Booker is garbage.

Yeah these are all good moves, i went to espn.com to check the news and when i saw the addition of millers name i was even more pleased. The Brown extension is a little surprising but you just cant have too many quality DL guys.

I love these moves, but isn't the Moose release timing pretty curious? Doesn't it just give Berrian more leverage? The only way this makes sense to me is if they think they will end up franchising Berrian anyway, in which case the timing doesn't matter.
