The Mercury News reports that the Giants will monitor Joe Crede this spring, and if healthy, there's a "good chance" they could acquire him for a pitcher.

The Giants have reportedly been shopping Matt Cain, who would be a solid fit in the back of a Chicago rotation that is starved for experience. Giants special assistant Ron Schueler, the former White Sox GM, has been pushing the team to acquire Crede

Yes, its official, Sabean is the worst GM in the history of baseball.

Cain for Crede occurs....that's pathetic.

How about Murton and Marshall for Cain?

That won't satiisfy Sabean's veteran fetish...Marquis and Dempster for Cain?

Wow...the worst part would be that everyone would call KW a genius again...

It's easy to look like a genius when you're dealing with an idiot.

I haven't looked at any stats but wouldn't Cain pretty much be the number 2 if not 1 in Chicago (depending on which Buerhle shows up)? I don't see back of the rotation with the pitchers they have. I could be wrong though..

Cue Hendry/Littlefield joke

This is absurd. It's like Sabean doesn't like a player unless he's crappy and/or overrated.

I'm pretty sure a trade would involve Noah Lowry rather than Cain.

Numerous articles have been written about this and all have mentioned Lowry, not Cain. IIRC, Lowry and Crede's salaries basically offset.

That would make infinitely more sense especially considering the back of rotation comment.

Yeah, wouldn't Cain be the Sox like #1/2??

But yes, I would do Lowry for Crede too if I were the Sox.

Lowry just has a huge control problem and his stats outside of Pac Bell/whatever it's called are terrible. Almost 1.5 runs higher over the course of his career. That could be cause for concern especially since Comiskey is a hitters haven.

At this rate, we could get Cain and Lincecum for Aramis. Would anyone do that if Aramis waived his no trade clause?

Probably as long as we can get Roberts and move DeRosa to 3B until the trading deadline.

Zambrano

Lincecum

Cain

Lilly

Hill

Roberts

Fukudome

Lee

Soriano

DeRosa

Soto

Pie

Theriot

In a heartbeat. It doesn't even really matter who we get to replace Aramis, either.

Really interesting question...

I'd have to get the opinion of a bunch of people smarter than me about when Lincecum's and Cain's arms might be subject to falling off.

It's sort of funny how the same metropolitan area has both the worst and best GM's in baseball.

I have a theory that has a lot to do with operating budget.

Some scouts think Lincecum is a walking time bomb. Some think he can throw like that forever.

Cain worries me a bit more, simply because he looks like a workhorse, so he's been treated like one. Still, he's not in any imminent danger for this season.

Either way, with a rotation that sick, we'd be in pretty good shape. I don't care if we have to sign Pedro Feliz to play third...

Cain reminds me of Jason Schmindt
