Sigh. Late last week, on back to back non-contact drills, Pat Cowan tore his ACL and Ben Olson broke his foot. Cowan is done for the season.

Sorry to hear that raisin.

how good are those guys, Raisin? PSU lost it's best defender when Lee tore his ACL back before the spring game

They're both only decent, but when they're your top two QB's, it hurts pretty badly. Those 2 being gone was probably one of the only reasons that UCLA losing a few of their games last year, including their most embarrassing loss against N.D. when their 3rd QB tossed 6 INT's.

The offensive line is so putrid that eventually they would have gotten hurt. Olson should be back by August or so but he'll get hurt again (as will one of the backups). It'll just be a repeat of last season.

On the flip side, it's only a 6-6 team, maybe 7-5 at best. It sucks for all the seniors but getting the young kids experience will probably be good.

Funny story about young Mr. Wood. A couple of weeks ago, Auburn had been recruiting him very for the lack of better word, hard. And a reporter asked him what he thought of Auburn, and his exact words was: "I know it's in Alabama, somewhere." That's my friends is the state of recruiting in Alabama. Very funny.

Of course, 6 in a row is the state of actual football in Alabama, no?

Against a program who was struggling with probation, plus an inferior coach? A full team of talent .v. a half team of legit talent? Not too surprise.

With that talent coming up for 2008 and 2009, I very confident that #7 won't go into the books.

Personally, I believe one would be foolish to be "very confident" that Alabama will beat Auburn in '08 based upon Bama's most recent recruiting class. As it stands, Auburn likely still has the better, deeper team. If Alabama puts together another top 5 recruiting class, then well....Alabama will regain a dominant position in '09. Putting our in-state rivalry aside, Georgia, LSU, and Florida will probably be the top SEC teams in '08.

Are Cowan and Olsen made out of glass? It seems like they're always hurt.

Sorry about that, Raisin.

Meh, it seems like it especially when they get hurt in non-contact drills but that offensive line has been so bad the last year plus it's no wonder all these guys get hurt (their backup and the top 3 running backs also got hurt last year).

I'm in the process of building two (possibly three) seperate football previews, and despite last night's annihilation of Milwaukee, last week's draft coupled with all this writing has me firmly in football mode.

Congrats to Donnie Mac for making the college Hall of Fame! You shouldn't have lost the Heisman in 87 to a punt returner for an 8-3 team.

And Rocket shouldn't have lost it to a BYU quarterback who chucked 5 picks in his bowl game, so it all evens out somehow.

Holtz made it, too. Well-deserved.

Since Jon, Cuse and Andy are bragging about their guys, huzzah for Troy Aikman getting inducted...the only Bruin to ever be picked #1 in the NFL Draft.

The latest on the BTN/Comcast negotiations:

sj-r.com[/url]"]The Big Ten Network and Comcast — the nation’s largest cable provider that replaced Insight Communications this year in Springfield — likely will announce an agreement in late August, said John Ourand, a reporter for SportsBusiness Journal.

“Both sides are saying they expect something before the football season,’’ Ourand said.

An announcement could come in as soon as two or three weeks.

...............

SportsBusiness Journal reported Comcast has agreed to place the network on expanded basic cable through most of the region, as much as 94 percent of it.

Meanwhile, the Big Ten Network relaxed its demand to keep the channel on expanded basic cable everywhere.

...............

The network allowed Comcast some flexibility, such as placing the channel on a digital basic package in Philadelphia. Insight, which didn’t carry the Big Ten Network to Springfield subscribers, has the same concession in Louisville, Ky.

It wasn’t clear how much Comcast would pay for the channel, although the Big Ten had been charging less than $1 a month per subscriber, SportsBusiness Journal reported. Comcast has a precedent for passing the fee to its customers, Ourand said, but there was no indication how Comcast would handle the network’s costs.

Negotiations were difficult since Comcast and Fox, a corporate partner with the Big Ten Network, are competitors.

“If you talk to Comcast and the Big Ten Network, they act like this deal was done in a vacuum,’’ Ourand said. “Because Fox and Comcast are such big companies, there is always more than one deal struck. It’s almost never a one-on-one deal.’’

It seems like Comcast felt a little additional pressure with their upcoming launch of the Pac-10 network. Even though the Pac-10 is in FOX territory, the Comcast-owned Pac-10 network getting better coverage than the FOX-owned Big Ten Network in Comcast territory wouldn't play over too well.

But the bottom line is that all signs point to the deal getting done by the end of the summer.
