The fact that he used steriods?

So people are now taking rumors of appearances in the Mitchell report as fact that said player used steroids?

Hate to bring the far past up, but aren't you one of the people who said you are pretty sure Portis has been involved in dog fighting because he commented that he didnt' think it was that big a deal?

I think this is as close to fact as it gets, without being able to place the needle in someone's......nevermind.

I misread what you said. But I don't think it's a "rumor" that Prior is on the list.

It's rumor. The leaked list isn't 100% accurate, baseball has said as much.

If his name actually appears in the report in 30 minutes will you be convinced? And if not, why?

It really wasn't about the rumor part, it was about the Mitchell report. The whole thing stinks to me.

I think we have to wait and see what the conclusions are based on before judging the conclusions.

What, you're concerned about the validity of a glorified witch hunt/McCarthy communist report?

Exactly. A) Politician, B) Red Sox owner, C) based on hearsay. No oversight, no transparancy.

I had an open mind when it was first announced, but the more I've heard about it the less I care about it. It really has nothing to do with Cubs names being on it, I said this before I ever heard the names.

I'm just uncomfortable with the idea of a name being in a report equalling a fact that a guy did steroids.

Bye bye nancy boy Prior, you non-trying towel throwing slumpy body language girly man. Karma really bit you for screwing over the Cubs and the fans the way you did you just ducky stiffing mph losing getting hurt on purpose can't throw 150 pitches wussy. I hope you didn't strain your vagina when you found out Hendry finally pulled you off the Cubs' teat and took away all that free money you've been getting. What's that, you could have made many many more millions if you weren't hurt? Don't give me that nonsense, I know you aren't even hurt and even if you were you did it on purpose so you could get paid for nothing and live the highlife back in SoCal with all your wimpy pretty boy roid head needle sticking lying jerkheads.

Again, I think you have to read it yourself before drawing conclusions weither way.

I heard Olney on Mike and Mike this morning saying that an agent for a former Mets player told him (Olney) that his client (the former Met) was approached about a check he wrote to a clubhouse attendant, who (the attendant) told the Mitchell people that it was for drugs. The player responded that he didn't remember what the check was for - it could have been for pizza, a tip, etc. - but that he has never, ever used drugs. Apparently the Mitchell people took his name out of the report (according to the agent, that is).

There was no logic good enough to justify this decision. This is Jim Hendry being childish and making his decisions based on emotion rather than logic.

From what I have read he will not be healthy until mid-season. Then I would expect him to be very rusty and most likely not of much use to the major league team this season. If he wouldn't agree to a contract with a club option for next year then he can walk after this season anyway. So from the Cubs perspective they pay him a pretty good salary for another year just to get him rehabbed so he can cash in as a free agent in '09. If he would not take the two year contract then I can see why the organization decided it was better to cut him loose now. I would be very surprised if whatever team he signs with does not either get a two year deal (or one year with a team option for '09) or pays a lower amount in a one year deal than what the Cubs could have forced him to take.

Exactly my sentiments, to the letter, regardless of the Mitchell report. I, too, was a vocal Prior advocate before the 2001 draft, and invested a lot of interest in him over the years which has turned out badly. I certainly wish a mutual agreement could have been reached, and have delusions that he could somehow miraculously help down the stretch this year, but it would seem that it's not Hendry who's being emotional or illogical when looking at the situation as it really is.

I am glad he did not (or at least he is not named in the report, which does not necessarily mean he is/was not a user). Its bothersome enough that several players I appreciate and admire are on the list. For example, I love Glenallen Hill and those HRs he hit that landed on Kenmore. Edited by RynoRules

Untrue jersey. I have in the past wrote that what i don't like about Prior is when he is getting hit, he fads away mentally.

that's just a ridiculous statement.

Sorry we can't put a number on it so you could understand it.

Can't you apply that theory to Hill also?

no it wasn't. he can't pitch.

I believe we have repeated posts (including some by me) acknowledging that he's injured and rehabbing. Indeed, we even note that he may never be an effective pitcher again. Do you have any inside information that indicates that he won't ever pitch again? Do you know that he is forever going to be a Marquis-esque pitcher? Because I'm tired of ridiculous blanket statement posts that refuse to acknowledge that Prior might indeed return to form and be an effective pitcher.

Simply put: you have no idea whether or not he will pitch again or be effective.

Good business decisions are made without emotion or anger and take into account your organization's needs. Given that all baseball teams need good pitching, and Prior might be a good pitcher, simply tendering Prior an offer and taking him to arbitration is a good decision. You are playing for more time that allows you to negotiate a contract, trade him, or win the arbitration case (which the Cubs surely would do). Prior was under the Cubs' control for 2008; letting him to another team for nothing is a bad business decision, based on the knowledge we have.

and it would be equally ridiculous.

trying to get in the head of these guys by saying they can't handle the pressure, are mentally weak, etc is just comical.
