Kaplin made some really good points. He kept pointing to the difference in attitude between Wood and Prior. How Wood (on Sports Central last week) said he wanted to be a Cub his entire career. Prior has never expressed that he was happy being a Cub. Kap said he wasn't a good teammate that he was not liked in the Clubhouse. That when he was rehabbing, he NEVER came by to be with the team. Wood was just the opposite. Prior apparently never got involved in the community, unlike Wood who has his celebrity bowling tournament. Kaplin wished him well but he says he can't blame the Cubs for what they did.

I was always a really big fan of Mark but if he doesn't want to show any loyalty and stay here...then maybe it is better that he leave. I guess if anything, it shows the Cubs mean business

I pretty much agree with every word of this. It's hard to see him go, but who knows if he'll ever pitch again, let alone pitch effectively.

nobody knows, which is why you keep him around for a year, so you can find out.

Prior wasn't in Chicago nearly as long as Wood was. He was also abused by the coaching staff and treated terribly by the fans and media. But since it's a business, that's how the decision should be made. It would have been in the best interest of the Cubs to tender him a deal.

If he comes back this year and pitches well, then I'll be upset, but as of right now I think the Cubs had all the medical information in front of them and probably made the right decision.

Zero respect for Prior. It seemed as if he acted like a big baby ever since his numerous injuries began. I remember stretches of the past few years of not even hearing his name mentioned, prolly because as mentioned above he wasen't around.

Now he can leech off of the Padres who will pay him pennies because they are a terrible cheap franchise.

this is the cubs we're talking about... probably not a safe assumption

didn't take long for the bad teammate spin to start up. Well, at least this time we're doing AFTER trying to trade the guy as opposed to before.

Why are some of you guys whining so much about this? It's not like the guy will ever pitch again. What... paying him over the pat 3 years to get NOTHING was not enough for some of you?

Good riddance. Go occupy someone else's 60 day DL.

How is that being a troll? Teams are going to be interested in picking up Prior. I don't understand how him showing interest in having his team sign Prior can be considered trolling.

I like Prior, but if he doesn't want to be here, what can you do. I have no problem with this. Good luck Mark, hope you tear it up for an AL team.

You can trade him. Heck, you can let him pick wherever he wants to go and get a serviceable prospect for him.

Lol. Yea what a baby he was when he was constantly trying to come back from being hurt, while still being hurt and needing surgery. What a puss.

Agree. Reds44 has been around a while and adds value. Just like Jake following the Bucs, we also have our resident Reds fan.

It's interesting to see such a wide range of emotions following the news. I think this move is probably for the best. Hope he pitches well out on the west coast.

Yea why would a guy who had surgery FINALLY to get what was wrong with him fixed, ever pitch again. We've spent more money on bigger wastes that unfortuanately were able to play then what we've spent on Prior.

This is a man who was paid over the past 3 years for doing *nothing*

He never came back, something always ached, and then when it was time for him to step up as a "good guy" and stay with the franchise that nursed him along over all these years he splits because he wants MORE money.

If this was a person at your job that acted in such a manner and wanted a raise after being on medical leave for 3 years, you'd be up in arms.

i'd probably be bitter if a lousy manager did a horrible job controlling my pitch counts and innings pitched, costing me tens or maybe up to a hundred million dollars in future earnings. then the team that employed that manager insinuated that there was nothing wrong with my arm, sending the message to the team's fans that i'm either faking the injury, or i'm just a pansy who can't handle a little pain.

let me be the first to congratulate mark on winning the 2009 or 2010 cy young with whoever he's pitching for.

Doing nothing? Do you think rehab is easy? Do you think trying to pitch when you need surgery is easy?

I was kidding, however as a Cubs poster on this board, I don't like the feeling of an NL Central rival openly root for a player that causes such an emotional response for Cubs fans.
