Free agent Livan Hernandez ranked 15th in the league at 204-1/3 innings, while Randolph also mentioned Staten Island product Jason Marquis (191-2/3 innings) as another consideration. The Cubs, who are shopping Marquis, need outfield help and apparently like Endy Chavez, although that seems too steep a price for pitcher bounced from Chicago's rotation by season's end.

Chavez is terrible I don't know how good of a defender he is but he isn't of much use with that bat and he makes close to 2 million. But at this point anything that saves of some coin and gets Jason or Dempster out of the rotation is a good thing.

If by chance this is true, who would they put at the back end of the rotation? I would think they'd want to save some of the young pitching for depth later in the season.

I love cheering for a team who has a mid-rotation pitcher go

6-5, 3.67 ERA and a .231 batting-average against before the All Star break and

6-4, 5.73, .284 after.

Nice to see the ERA go up more than 2 rund and a the BAA go up 53 points and he comes out with the same number of wins and one fewer loss.

I figure that by acquiring Chavez, Hendry will probably think that one of Pie or Murton will be expendable to land an arm in the rotation.

Endy Chavez is too steep of a price for Marquis? Seriously?

He's a fan favorite ever since the Game 7 catch and his career year in 2006.

In all fairness, that catch was phenomenal. My Mets fan roommate nearly killed himself this September, so he decided he could make himself feel better by buying a poster of that Catch. And let's be honest, it has to be one of the most clutch defensive plays ever (even though the mets lost that game).

For a moment, I took this way too literally and forgot about the mets catastrophic collapse. I was wondering just how miraculous that catch must have been to actually save a human life.

Who cares what we get back in return for Marquis, as long as we don't have to give up more money.

but who would pinch run after lou exhausts all of our position players???

I'd rather keep Marquis than trade him for Chavez

No way. You can always stick Chavez in AAA. Let's get out from under Marquis' contract and poor performance, please.

I agree. Dump his salary.

Even after Roberts, I still think the Cubs have 2 major more moves up their sleeves: another OF and a starter.

IN THIS CASE

I think you might be able to violate a fellow team in a trade. Endy is too little... and that is not because I like Marquis. Pitching is so uneven, it seems like every year there are at least a 1/2 dozen guys who have near career years in wins/innings, etc. There are so few consistent pitchers. In a way I think you have to be optimistic when trading for a pitcher... COULD be be lightening in a bottle for a year? Marquis? Could someone convince themselves of that? If they try REALLY HARD???

The answer is yes. Especially for the Mets who need to get lucky.... they are absolutely pitcher poor.

I like the idea of dealing w/ the Mets. If Endy is too little, what would be the logical upgrade??
