adam everett is worthless on a major league roster although tejada is not worth the money in a post-steroid era. Roberts gets on base, steals bases, is a great glove, team player, etc. there is not even an argument to be made over derosa. Getting on base is the name of the game. He is a prototypical leadoff hitter (soriano is not) & is a player this club desparately needs in order to compete with baseball's heirarchy of which we are not one of. anyone watching the playoffs last year should know that.

I have no idea where I read it at except to say I read it online about a year ago. Bill James wrote an article that basically claimed that Adam Everett was a better SS overall than Derek Jetter.

Just got back from class. Seems like a good deal for the Astros. What does this mean for us getting Roberts?

You'll have to ask Meph. He's the president of the Brian Roberts fan club... 8-)

DeRosa has about the same OBP as Roberts did. Roberts will cost us top prospects and more salary will be added to get him. There's also talk about Roberts being a roid-user. I think an argument can be made about Roberts over DeRosa.

If everett is non-tendered because of this... I'd love to pick him up.

And boy does it pain me to say that.

go read my comments in other threads. i am not about to explain it for the the 10th time.

If you don't want to explain it again. Don't mention Roberts name in a thread about Tejada.

Somehow I don't think the guys at Orioles Hangout are going to think they've gotten enough.

Furthermore, even with Tejada, I don't think the Astros have enough to contend. Their line-up is still going to be brutal.

I was thinking that as well. I still don't see how their team could contend with ours or the Brewers.

Ed Wade is a horrible, horrible GM.

I literally cannot believe he made that trade.

It's not out of the realm of possibility that Wade is murdered by an Astros fan in the next few days.

I've heard rumors of Astro fans hiring Tonya Harding to stop Wade from this madness.

* Note that the Orioles were marketing Tejada to other teams as a 3B at the winter meetings. As a SS, his offense as nice. As a 3B, not so much.

* Do the Astros really think they're in a position to win now? Really?

Not that familiar with the Astros farm system, but from what I gather this is like us giving up Marshall, Gallagher, Murton, and Patterson for Tejada? If so, Houston got hosed.

This is a great trade...for us.

Tejada is terrible defensively and is about to fall off of a cliff offensively.

Even if he was at 2005/2006 levels, he's not enough to turn them into contenders.

Hard to disagree. He is also coming off a broken wrist, no?

Yea, and in fact even more since Houston gave up 5 players for Miggy (and you mentioned 4 Cubs' prospects). Gallapher and Patton are probably comparable, and obviously Luke Scott and Murton is a good comparison. Judging by his K/IP numbers, it seems like Sarfate has way more upside than Marshall (even though Sarfate is already 26) if he ever gets his control figured out, though Marshall is the only pitcher mentioned here who's actually had some sort of sustained success at the major league level. Albers seems kinda bleh to me, but is 24 and was well-regarded by the Stros; I might consider him like a Hart or someone from our end. I'd probably rather have Costanzo than Patterson if I were dealing.

So to your point- Marshall, Gallagher, Murton, E-Patt and I guess Kevin Hart would be a ton to give up for a 33-year old 3B coming off an injury who makes $13 million.

I think that the Astros will be a non-issue in 2008, but a heart of the order that includes Berkman, Lee, Tejada, and Pence is still pretty formidable, especially at Minute Maid Park.

Problem is he's going to one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in the league.

It's still a bad deal for the Astros because the guy appears to be older than he really is. They gave up a ton for a guy that's not getting any younger.

That looks like a pretty solid core to me. I think the Stros stay in it at least for awhile in '08. Not saying they'll win it.

Astros #2 and #3 starters - Wandy Rodriguez and Woody Williams.
