I am just wondering what others are thinking Fukudome will produce next year. It is hard to tell with a player coming internationally. From everything I have read, it looks like he has some power and a good eye for taking pitches. I have heard him copared to Abreu and then to a left handed Murton.

My expectation would be a .280 BA/10-15 HRS/ 18 SB/ .280 OBP

Is that what everyone else is thinking or should I be expecting more or less?

I'd be wildly disappointed if he didn't draw a single walk all year.

.349/40-45 HRs/50 SB/.482 OBP

Huh? Am I missing some kind of joke?

Yep! And damn it's funny!

What, you didn't know he's the japanese barry bonds?

Who can still play great defense and steal bases. I would pay at least $15 mil. for that.

Looks like he's a mix of the pre-roid and post-roid Bonds.

The Padres have made an offer to Fukudome, calling it "one of the two or three biggest offers" in team history.

Has this point been touched on yet? It's not saying alot as I can't remember many big free agents the Padres have been in on, but it looks like Fukudome's going to get way more than he should.

In case he's reading:

Fukodome はカブスと、今日署名する!

I see what you did there.

(For the record, I was going to post that in Japanese, but apparently the best translation Babelfish could do was "I look at that thing there." :-k)

To answer your question, that's probably about the thousand and tenth time I've read that quote.

Has there been any talk on the Chicago sports talk radio on this subject today?

According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted.

I think Plesac is way off on that. Makes no sense.

That would be completely silly if it was an either or proposition.

Get both. Period.

I don't like the sound of that. Considering Roberts only makes about $6MM or so this year, I highly doubt that is the case.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Guys, its Plesac. The guy is full of crap.

Anyhow,

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22207406/

When asked what kind of contract Fukudome should get, one general manager said, "Maybe four years and $35-40 million." When asked what he will get, the GM said, "Four years, $50 million. Or more."
