Between this, waiting on the Roberts trade, and waiting for UM to hire a new coach, I'm about ready to shoot myself. I need some news already.

Are there any complete games of Fukudome avail. anywhere? I'd like to see him in something other than highlights.

I'd like to see that too. In a couple of the videos I've watched he looked completely fooled on some off-speed pitches. He was way out on his front foot and looked ridiculous flailing at the pitch.

That's how alot of Japanese hitters look when they swing, it's similar to Iwamura and Ichiro. Hideki stays back more, but he's more of a rotational hitter than the others.

The highlights I seen of Fukudome is that he stays closed well against LH'ers throwing breaking balls, has real good hip rotation, load, and balance. I just want to see how well he stays back on the outside pitches.

I'm right with ya EJ. What do you think happens first? Has to be the Fukudome signing because Bill Martin's too busy yachting to find a coach and Andy McPhailure has to trade Tejada and Bedard before he moves Roberts.

Yeah, I think we'll hear about Fukudome first. I don't know about the other two. The Roberts thing might not happen and Martin is working at a snail's pace so it could be next year before Michigan gets a new coach.

Made a gif of Fuku's swing:

Geez, that pitch was right down the middle. I think CT could have hit that meatball.

c'mon K-Fuk, don't let us down

God, PLEASE let that become his nic-name.

I prefer "the Fukudome"

Let's just nickname him 'That's what she said'.

, wow this guy has a gun in RF

If Fukudome goes to the Padres he'll be able to do that same thing if Aramis Ramirez hits a ball to RF when the Padres play the Cubs. Get it? Because Aramis never hustles.

It's funny how it works that way

2003 - 0.0 Japanese on the roster

2004 - 0.5 Japanese on the roster

2005 - 1.0 Japanese on the roster

2006 - 1.0 Japanese on the roster

2007 - 2.0 Japanese on the roster

2008??????

It would seem that even after Fukudome signs, the Cubs will need at least one more Japanese player.

Any other FA's still available there?

Dave Roberts could probably be had for a pittance. He's making 6.5 mil each of the next two years, and he's coming off a .695 OPS season at the age of 35.

Wait, nevermind, he's on the Giants. Sabean probably thinks he's just about to hit his prime.

Has UM interviewed Ron Turner yet? [/sarcasm]

After speaking to his agent, general manager Kevin Towers said that he expects to learn as soon as Monday whether Kosuke Fukudome will accept the Padres' contract offer.

The Padres are believed to have offered a three-year deal worth at least $10 million per season, but the Cubs are also expected to make a serious run at Fukudome. Playing at Petco Park would crush whatever power potential Fukudome has and he could be asked to play center field if the Padres don't re-sign Mike Cameron.

Well I guess that would suck, considering there appears to be few other options out there.

I'll probably lose my lunch if I find out he goes to the Padres. Why on earth would he make that choice? That ballpark will water down his numbers, putting him in line for less money on his next contract. Why, to take less money to play for a team with less of a chance than us in '08?

Something just tells me that the Padres main role to play was to drive our price up. If they've got 3/30 on the table I bet we have 3/36 or more. And if someone has to go to 4 years it'll probably be us.

Lets just get this other with, please...

Well, Kosuke's asleep now.

I imagine he's having a dream in which he approaches a cute little baby bear and winds up getting mauled by its mother.

He's later found, barely alive, and nursed back to health by a kindly old Mexican priest.

It's not about living there, I'm sure he's talking about a hitter choosing a pitcher's park over a small field. These guy play half a year in a city and can make a permanent residence anywhere. How many of the Cubs players live in Chicago during the offseason? Not many. Most live in warm weather states, or outside of the country, to avoid Midwest winters.
