I know it. I've seen it. I don't at all get it. I'll take that weather all year any day over having to put up with all the ice, short days, and all the other garbage that winter brings.

You sir, are spot on.

I don't consider anything between mid-May (early June at the latest) and mid-to-late September to be remotely near miserable. Of course, that's just personal preference. November through March in Chicago could cease to exist and I'd never, ever miss it.

Many people, especially those who aren't used to it, are absolutely disgusted by the 95 degree and 95% humidity from mid July to mid August.

That said, watching the Bears play the NFC Championship game in the snow from inside my warm house was pretty cool.

Well, we aren't talking about picking between summer in Chicago and winter in Chicago. We're talking about the spotty weather early in the season and late in the season, plus the disgusting heat and humidity in the middle of the season, compared to San Diego, where it'll be between 75-85 every day with very little humidity, if any.

Me included, I love(d) Chicago winters when I lived there and whenever I visit. I can't stand the slightest humidity and hate dry heat above 90 degrees. But I think I'm one of the few.

I like winters too. I think I'm liking this winter more because I don't have to deal with driving in the snow since moving to Chicago. I don't use my car nearly as much as I used to in Ann Arbor. That was the big downfall of winter for me. Now that I can take the EL everywhere I need to go, winter is that much more enjoyable. There's something really peaceful about snow.

The week I just spent in Peoria over Thanksgiving played havoc on my sinuses. i don't think I could live comfortably in the midwest ever again. Since I moved to San Diego, I don't have sinus trouble anymore. Life is good.

Oh, I know. I was just, for no reason in particular, sharing why I hate this miserable time of year and why you'll never hear me complain about it being too hot or humid here in the summer.

I still think park factors should play a far greater role in his decision making, but that's just me and not him.

Never thought I'd read "EL" and "enjoyable" in the same sentence. :-"

This is crazy...I can't believe how excited I'm getting over the suspense of who Fukudome will sign with. Among the other things already mentioned on this board, I hope he takes into account that most of the Cubs games will be broadcast over super station WGN. I wonder what the Cub fanbase is already like in Japan?

I believe less than half are on WGN now, and that station is a lot less super than it once was.

I doubt there's much of a Cubs fanbase at all. Sosa was a hit over there, I believe. But while the Cubs have ignored the Japanese market for many years, other teams have built up long standing relationships.

Wasn't Derek Lee's dad a legend in Japan? Leon Lee? Scouted for sure. But did he play there as well? And Derek's uncle Leron definitely played there. Haven't heard this at all.

--Yeah I agree that WGN each year is showing less Cub ballgames than they did the previous year. I debated as to what word I should use: "some", "most", or "majority"... I of course went with most.

Switching gears here, how many years ago was it that the Cubs started the regular season playing a MLB team in Japan? Did they play the Mets?

Also if the Cubs sign Fukudome, do you think that Wrigley Field will add Sushi to their menu?

It's better than trying to dig my car out and drive in the freezing rain.

I'm pretty sure that was the 2000 season. So, as of next season, that'll be 8 years ago. Yes, they played the Mets.

I remember staying up all night to watch that game and then having to go to school in the morning. That sucked. I'm pretty sure one of the games went to extras, too.

Are we really comparing Chicago's weather to San Diego's? San Diego wins, hands down. Of course that nice, little 1-bedroom condo in San Diego will probably cost you $600.000. As others have mentioned, the fan base in San Diego is laid back compared to the diehard Cub fans. Of course, the bottom line is that Hendry will give him probably $2-3 million more per season and that will cure the problems dealing with Chicago's weather.

I don't think anybody is debating that.

If it makes any of you feel better, I had to turn on my heater for the first time this since last winter. I think it got down to around 42 last night.

From Rotoworld:

The Tigers considered but dismissed the idea of using Miguel Cabrera as a left fielder and keeping Brandon Inge at third base.

Cabrera wants to stay at third base for now, and the Tigers are smart to want to keep him happy as they attempt to lock him up in a long-term deal. Besides, he does seem to get the fact that he needs to lose weight and improve his defense if he wants to stay at the position. He's supposedly dropped about 15 pounds since the end of the season.

Haha. That would be absolutely beautiful if they did that. Jacque Jones can sit the bench even more in Detroit than he did in Chicago. Come on, Leyland. Make it happen!

Yes, that makes me feel so much better after hearing about yet another round of freezing rain, snow, and sleet that's making its way through here tonight and all day tomorrow. Thanks for finally putting that smile back on my face.

Well I had to scrape ice off my windshield twice in the past week before work. Is that better?

Holy crap, I'm now so giddy that I've piddled myself. Keep up the kind words, fellas!

And if it's any consolation, it poured down snow one of the days I was in Peoria for Thansgiving. In fact, the weather turned to crap the day I got there.
