Dave Roberts is half Japanese. His mother is Japanese and his father was African American and stationed at Okinawa. He was born there.

It's funny how it works that way

2003 - 0.0 Japanese on the roster

2004 - 0.5 Japanese on the roster

2005 - 1.0 Japanese on the roster

2006 - 1.0 Japanese on the roster

2007 - 2.0 Japanese on the roster

2008??????

He said his descision will be based financially and by the team that pursues him the most...Hendry has been going strong after him since day 1 and has made it known that he is the highest priority and throw whatever it takes to get him...I beleive we should get him..Im not worried about the Cardinals jsut sneaking in...Fukudome knows how we feel about him and how bad we want him here...All he needs to do is sign...Looks like he's signing tommorrow, when it will be Tuesday in Japan...Im real nervous about it, just the thought that this can be the Furcal situation all over again..Looks like no sleep tonight.

I thought this thing had been narrowed down to serious contenders? I wouldn't be surprised if clubs start jumping into the bidding in hopes of upping the final contract amount.

Get it done Jim.

As has been pointed out earlier IMB's post was a joke. If you click the link you get rick rolled. I hope your right about the financial aspect, but I can see why he would be tempted to want to play on the west coast.

I wont get excited until the announcement really becomes "Official". Right now, it's just a report coming out of Japan. Plus the Cubs are going have to out bid other teams for his services, so I'm trying to control any excitement I might have. I will say this however, if in fact Fukudome does decide to play in the U.S. ---there's no question in my mind, that Hendry wont allow himself to be out bid and Fukudome will become property of the Chicago Cubs.

Does anyone know about the merchandise share the Cubs would/could get if we sign Fukudome? I remember hearing somewhere that Dice-K wasn't actually that expensive because Boston got some sort of merchandise deal because he's from Japan.

Any truth to this or am I just crazy?

Yahoo

Update: Fukudome (elbow) has reportedly narrowed his list of potential teams to the Cubs, Padres and White Sox, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Recommendation: He has reportedly eliminated the Yomiuri Giants from consideration. The Cubs have the highest known bid for Fukudome. He plans to announce his decision on Tuesday.

I don't know the specifics but I swear having read something that said that whatever additional revenue the Red Sox received purely because of Daisuke was a largely underwhelming amount. I could be remembering it completely wrong. I do know that MLB clubs get revenue only from merchandise sold by outlets that the club operates, i.e. the Cubs get the revenue only from merchandise they sell at Wrigley and the Cubs Clubhouse Stores, and the revenue from merchandise sold elsewhere goes into MLB's revenue sharing.

I'm not afraid to admit that I'd be very angry if the Sox snatched him away and I had to watch him play across town (not to mention hearing about how they one upped the Cubs every 5 minutes)

For what it's worth, there was a Tribune bitlet yesterday that claimed the Sox' interest in him was "lukewarm at the moment."

What a freakin joke that would be if he goes to the second team in the second city and wants to play for that craptastic team in that division...Hopefully he didnt talk to Tadahito or Shingo..
