i was responding to someone that was rehashing the other side. I think we are all just anxious to see something happen...anything. It will be refreshing for the games to start in a couple weeks to get our mind off of it & back onto the field.

so only the ones who are against the trade are allowed to post on it?

You have posted your point every 3 pages for the last 100. It's not that you don't have a right to express your opinion (and I think a lot of the people arguing with you are actually for the trade, just not your premise), but the topic have been discussed ad naseum and no one wants to discuss it anymore, but you keep bringing up the point again as if it hasn't been discussed at all in this thread.

that's where you are wrong. I have not posted anywhere close to others that post against the trade.

People aren't against the trade, for the most part. They're against giving up too much for Roberts.

I am too, but I'm ok w/ overpaying as it's not like we are protecting a highly rated farm system. I don't view anyone in our minors as untouchable when you consider the window of opportunity that is here.

That sums up my opinion.

Do I think Roberts is an upgrade over Derosa? Certainly, I do.

Is he enough of an upgrade to give up Gallageher along with other valuable players? I don't think so.

we do "need" roberts because we don't have an effective leadoff hitter. There is a reason why piniella/hendry have been pursuing roberts for so long & you've heard interest in figgins. Soriano does not have the legs he used to have & is a better middle of the order guy these days. Roberts & Fukodome fully understand a "good atbat". They work the count & get on base. This helps the entire lineup as people are on to hit in & they make the pitcher work. The entire offense is much better w/ fuko/roberts w/ derosa as the supersub. I hope this gets done before the season starts. I think mcfails familiarity w/ all things cub hurt us here. He doesn't want to be perceived as getting the short end of the deal. They have no need for Roberts though as they are not in position to compete for several years.

Your posts make my head hurt.

It's the fact that everything you say has been refuted heavily with logic and reasoning. Soriano is more suited to hitin the middle of the order? If by "better suited" you mean his numbers dropping dramatically and a record number of LOB, then yet, he's "better suited". Everytime I see your name I get ready to read a ridiculous post.

It would have been nice to get Roberts, but I feel fine with out it since we have DeRosa.Atleast we can see what Gallagher can do, if he becomes what we hope, that could be a key to the season with a nice 1 through 4 and then Lieber..Also, hopefully Cedeno can finally get it right this time and be the starting SS making Theriot the bench player he should be..I think the biggest difference though will be the difference from the 5-8 spot..That last year killed so many rallies and it just seemed to be automatic outs when we had guys on..We had to deal with the Koyie Hill/Kendall,Floyd,Jones,Monroe,Etc..I read somewhere we were pretty much at the bottom in those spots at Avg. and RBI's...This time we have Fukudome at 5, DeRosa and Soto at 6 and 7, then Pie probably 8 which will be a signifigant upgrade from last year..You gotta figure well get alot better average from those spots and alot more RBI's instead of automatic outs...

dexter...you just made a personal attack & that is wrong. also, the comments about your head hurting when I post. that's ridiculous. you must be taking this too seriously then. I don't back up my opinions w/ a ton of stats because quite frankly...i don't have time & I don't care all that much. I'm not a professional message board poster & don't feel message boards are rocket science. they are for opinions & if they are not frought w/ analytical analysis...then so be it. I didn't realize it was a prereq & if it is...then i'm on the wrong board.

you just seem oblivious to the fact that you

a) state this opinion

b) have a lot of people refute it

c) a day passes

d) repeat step a)

i'm pretty sure you just cut and paste your "Hendry wants a leadoff hitter" paragraph over and over and then never read what anyone else says

no i don't....and certainly not anymore than you guys that are soriano leadoff lovers or derosa lovers. i see the same opinions over & over & over on that as well so...touche.

You're comparing multiple people who post similar opinions to you posting your's multiple times?

We're not "Soriano leadoff lovers", we're "getting the best performance out of an overpaid outfielder making 18 mil a year" lovers.

Not trying to defend him, but he is a serial killer. It's just who he is.

Wait, so you continously state an opinion, then when someone asks you to back it up, you "don't have time"? Forgive us for not taking you seriously.

The fact of the matter is that your opinion has less basis in reality than the facts that people here are using to refute your opinion. If that doesn't bother you, you should probably be a politician, not a message board poster.

We may disagree on the whole Soriano lineup position impacting his numbers thing, but that post hit the nail on the head. He has never once responded to the arguments against his opinion (which he has stated 10,000 times) except to say that Steve Stone and Cubs management agrees with him.

I'd be willing to drop some coin that if the Cubs got Roberts, that Soriano bats 1 and Roberts bats 2. It makes the most sense whether you agree or not. Am I a Soriano lover in the lead off spot? No. Am I against trading for Roberts? Depends on what is being given up to get him. For the right parts, I'd love to see Roberts batting 2nd for this team.

If the Cubs got Roberts, the Cubs would have arguably the best 1/2 punch in MLB.

I have pointed out several times how Soriano is a better lead off hitter and not once have you acknowledged that you've read, tried to understand the stats I've provided or provided any solid evidence that batting Roberts first would somehow make the Cubs a better team.

Give me one example. Just one. Soriano scores more runs per at bat and he hits for much more power.

It's all well and good that you wish to offer your opinion, but if you refuse to read the opinions of others, or at least acknowledge that you've read the opinions of others, what makes you think we should read yours? I have responded to you on at least 6 occasions, and not once have you acknowledged or responded to my posts.

The fact remains, Soriano is one of the most productive lead off hitters in the game today, and Brian Roberts also places well in that category, but not as high as Soriano. FACT!

bigbad..you would be disappointed then. It has been discussed adnauseum on the score, wgn & in the chicago print media that the cubs brass put soriano at leadoff last yr as that was his preference. that didn't work out too well & they are looking to upgrade that spot in the lineup while beefing up the middle by moving him down. soriano has agreed to move down this year if we get a good leadoff hitter. that is not opinion, but fact as reported on numerous occasions on tv, radio & in print. If I need to back up my opinions on a message board w/ systematic analysis then i'll let you guys do that. I work for a living, have two active children & am simply a lifelong cubs fan like many of you probably are. Happy trails...

And as we all know, those sources are never wrong, right?

. that didn't work out too well

It didn't? He had the second highest ops of his career last season.

I like how you try to pass your speculation off as fact. As someone else already mentioned, I'm pretty sure Roberts would bat second (even though I doubt he'll be playing for the Cubs this season).

I love how you state that you don't have time to back up your statements, yet you have time to make post after post. How convenient.
