If Hendry was willing to overpay for JP, then why not for an All-Star caliber 2nd baseman? The Cubs are a major market team and don't have to rely on the farm system all that much. The Cubs are built to win now. I think adding Roberts to the line up puts us that much closer. I mean really, what kind of talent have we produced in the last 100 years? Sure, you can name a few, but not a lot recently. I guess I would rather trade some unproven talent for some proven talent and just win. The life of a Cubs fan................................isn't it great???

Geez. I thought the thread might die, but it looks like it might still have some life in it after reading those quotes from MacPhail that were posted. I don't know how someone can take those quotes to mean the deal is off and Roberts is off the table.

Yeah its been overblown. I wonder if Hendry dumping Cintron was a tactic, and MacPhail coming out with this news is a counter tactic....but mostly I'm just going to pretend this is going away.

 

I agree. This may well be a tactic on MacPhail's part. I won't be convinced until Opening Day arrives without Roberts at Wrigley Field.
