So, I read the original rumor and the posts up to about page 5. But now we're on 29 and I'm not reading 24 pages. Does someone want to give me a quick summary of where things stand, now?

You're in Fantasy Land (a.k.a College) and you don't have time to read 24 pages?

So you're counting on Ramirez being injured again(decent assumption), Lee being suspended/injured again, and our RF being no better than average.

And you're counting on an injury free year?

I agree with cubbiecolt. Now you'll be getting Roberts/Derosa at bats instead of Derosa/Fontenot/Floyd/Jones at bats.

Tell me. Which one would you take?

Already saw this story with Walker/Grudz in '04. All these ABs that are supposedly out there never materialize.

right now it sounds like they are waiting on Angelos to approve a deal. None of the names are 100% but Levine was quoted as saying Cedeno was part of it, along with a pitcher and perhaps an OF.

Any ideas as to who the OF might be? I would say someone like Fuld but apparently he's "untouchable."

Oh, and what are the chances of Angelos approving this deal? Didn't he turn down a deal involving Roberts at the last winter meeting?

Angelos did nix a deal with the Braves last year but I think that had more to do with it being Roberts and Penn for Giles and Laroche. He was/is their # 1 pitching prospect and neither of those guys are that exciting.

Hard to get a read on the OF. the only name I have heard so far was Murton, but it was late and I am not sure if it was being implied as Cedeno, Murton, SP or Murton, SP. So many rumors in those 24 pages it gets fuzzy.

Why would someone desire NOT to read the greatest thread ever? The sea lions alone make this the greatest thread ever.

It would be very, very helpful if Roberts himself called Angelos and told him that he doesn't really want to be part of a rebuilding effort and that he'd be grateful if Angelos would approve the trade.

If this really is just waiting on Angelos, I'd think it's going to get done.

you underestimate the meddling incompetence of peter angelos...

Maybe he can meddle and ask for a proven vet pitcher instead!

Beat me to it. Angelos has a thing for Roberts. I don't see him agreeing to this unless someone persuades him a bit.

MacPhail has said that he's kept Angelos up to speed throughout all trade negotiations and that Angelos has not once told him not to do something...

For my 16,000th post, I have decided to post something that is thought-provoking and deep compared to the current discussions going on. You will find it is quite relevant to this thread.

Daunting list of middle relievers with a couple good years scattered among a bunch of bad ones. Not that I'm against the move, but its funny to see. Man I wish my last name was Knickerbocker.

He turned down Roberts and Hayden Penn for M. Giles and Laroche. No GM in his right mind would approve that deal.

Thanks, now I won't be able to stop laughing for a couple of hours. Again.

Sorry. But, me too. That picture might be the funniest thing I've seen on NSBB, and I've seen a lot of funny stuff. But, then again, I could just be delirious.

You can always change your name to Bump Knickerbocker.

If Gallagher is the pitcher, does he project to be a 2, 3, 4 or 5 and when is he expected to be on the big team?

I've been hoping the Cubs could get their hands on a Bill Knickerbocker - Jocko Milligan-type guy for a long time. But come to find out he's a Solly Hemus-prototype...this is very, very good news. (PS: I don't even know who these comparisons are to...I just couldn't resist)

ESPN update:

• The Orioles' Andy MacPhail left Nashville late Thursday morning. So that makes it official -- the Orioles won't be making any deals here. Their talks with the Cubs about a trade for Brian Roberts have been back-burnered while the Orioles prioritize talks about Bedard and Miguel Tejada. But what we found on that back burner is that there is mutual interest in a deal that would send Roberts to the Cubs for pitcher Sean Gallagher, plus a second player that still needs to be determined. Despite speculation Felix Pie could wind up in that trade, teams that have talked to the Cubs about Pie say he would only be movable in a much bigger deal.

All that excitement last night turns out to be for nothing. We need some Cubs' news already. We're all going crazy.

Its cautiously optimistic news. I didn't really expect a deal to get done today, but its good to see that there is something to this rumor and its no where near dead.
