oh, just kill me if this is true. Eric Patterson will easily outproduce Matsui in 2008. Now you start using your head Jim! That's that lump 3 feet above your arse!

But, Matsui will show up to the ballpark on time.

No out-of-town source is going to scoop the Chicago press corps on a Cubs acquisition.

Why do people always write this?

False hope?

The fact that Hendry is even thinking about this guy hurts my head.

The fact that this is Hendry thinking makes it all more worse.

This guy will be on the Cubs. No reports needed on this one. I really hope the Astros sweep us under the rug, but I have no hope.

Very, very much so.

Your theory assumes there has never been a non-chicago source that scooped the chicago press corps regarding a Cubs acquisition, and that their will never be. I think that's an absurd assumption.

How's this:

I believe it is extremely unlikely that an out-of-town source is going to scoop the Chicago press corps on a Cubs acquisition. I also believe that those occasions where it does happen will be extremely few and far between.

Bruce, any idea if the plan would be to use him at 2nd or SS?

Thanks for the info as always Mr Miles! Keep up the good work.

I believe Bruce has said the plan would be to use him at second exclusively.

Second base. I'm sure they'll say this: He and DeRosa will share time there, probably with Matsui getting most of the time there. He's a switch hitter, and we need a lefty at the top of the order. Lee can't play 162 games. Ramirez can't play 162 games. Maybe the right fielder can't play 162 games. Matsui can't play 162 games. So there will be plenty of playing time for DeRosa. I'm relaying this to you as how I think they'll say it.

Any chance they will say (Borat style) "Not!"

The way I'm reading this also indicates to me you're quite confident a deal will get done. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it.

I don't think so. If they get Matsui, they'll be confident they can get Fukudome, if he declares he's coming to North America. Matsui and Fukudome go back a long ways.

Well assuming Justice has sources with the Rockies and the Rockies are not only Matsui's previous team but also one of the few rumored teams to be competing for him, its not really unreasonable. Although in this specific instance, Justice does only site a radio report.

That's up to Matsui. He's the one who has to sign. All I'm saying is the Cubs are going hard after him.

Just doesn't make sense. What the hell did DeRosa do last year that deserved to get him benched for a lesser player? I understand he'll probably still get 400 ABs, but the fact that he has to move out of his position to appease a lesser player enrages me. I guess DeRosa was his flavor of the month last year and now hes casting him aside for his new flavor.

Heres what most likely will happen...Cubs sign Matsui..Thinking " Now we can get Fukudome!" Next day..Fukudome declares he will be staying in Japan...

Well, I remember last year, when there was a lot of hand-wringing over the Cubs signing this utility player DeRosa to a three year deal. At the time, he had played three games at first base, 114 at second, 147 at third, 137 at short, 13 in left and 90 in right. This year, he played 93 games at second, 37 at third, one at short, 22 in right, one in left and nine at first base. So I'm not sure he has a "regular" position. He played the hell out of third base when Ramirez was out.
