Oh brilliant we're going to end up with Jeremy Burnits in Rf only this time his name will be Geoff Jenkins.

This would be incorrect. Hendry is going to sit on his hands and everyone will be gone by the time he decides to fill the RF spot. I predict Hendry trades half the farm for Nate McLouth.

Interesting. So the Red Sox are probably trading Ellsbury to the Twins for Santana and then are going to try and sign Fukudome to replace him, just great.

And then they have to sign Santana. Must be nice to not have a budget.

if they can't santana, it won't necessarily be because of their unlimited budget...they actually have the prospects to trade for him. the cubs don't.

SI: • The Cubs are considered the favorite for top Japanese League outfielder Hiroki Fukudome. But the Red Sox could be an interesting possibility, as well.

Are we still in on Hideo Kazfukunomo?

I was doing some reading about Fukudome and I came across this 'scouting report' from Nov 3rd on this Mets blog

Today, at Dugout Central, a writer named Dugout Scout gives a detailed scouting report of 30–year-old, Japanese free-agent OF Kosuke Fukudome.

In the post, Dugout Scout writes…

“Fukudome is one of the better athletes playing in Japan. He is capable of playing center field and right field…capable of hitting in the middle of the batting order or in the number two spot…When evaluating the 2007 MLB line-ups, Fukudome could bat fifth in the line-up for 11 of the 30 teams. He projects to the following: .265 AVG, .380 OBP, 20–30 HR, 80–100 RBI and 10 SB.”

I love Fukudome's potential, but I'd be worried about giving $13 million to a player with those numbers. Gotta pay for that OBP though (ironically)

Why wouldn't pay $13M for those numbers? Even on the low end of 20HRs, that's likely a mid 8's OPS. On the high end, he's probably a better offensive player than Derrek Lee.

A little snippet from Will Carrol chat today.

Pat (Chicago): Who starts next year in Right Field for the Cubs?

Will Carroll: Fukudome is probably the top option, with some sort of Murton/X platoon as the second option.

jbacow (NYC): Are there any baseball related health issues for Lester? (And what will Bucholz grade out next year on the THR?)

Will Carroll: Not that I'm aware of on Lester - it's one of the things I've been trying to run down. Buchholz -- guessing he's yellow on age.

BREAKING -- looks like Fukudome will decide today. Someone made a big offer. My guess? Cubs.

Dave (Indy): Will - you picked a great day to be out of town. You know what it the "first snow" is like in Indy, even if it was only a few inches. Lots of rumors about Indians trying to get Jason Bay. How much of Bay's fall off in 2007 would be due to injuries? Are those injuries that we should expect to continue to hamper Bay in the future? Thanks

Any confirmation of this?

After hearing about a big offer my first guess would be the Cubs too, but with the way the Royals have been shocking people....I wouldn't be surprised...

Don't forget Scott Eyre, who had to change his underpants when hearing of Hendry's initial offer.

I'll bet Boston gave him like 3/$50m.

And thought they were getting a deal because they didn't have to put up $50mil just to talk to him.
