was pretty hilarious this morning, listening to North on the morning Score on the way in.

North and his bag nibbler Fred Heubner quoted the article comparing Jock and Fukudome.

Ignorance was on display for all to hear.

Jock and Fuku are alike in the sense that they both play outfield positions. the comparison ends there. compare OBP, base running skills, arm strength and acuracy, and general basebal acumen.

ever see Jock throw the ball, North?

Fuku's numbers/ play trump Jock in every way.

how is this not apparent?

Does anyone know what Fukudome is being offered per year by the Japanese teams? Does 10mil a year get him to the states?

I read that he received an offer of 18 million from Hanshin, and 20 million from Yomiuri, both 4 year offers. So 10 million would be roughly twice that annually.

An advantage to signing Fukudome is that we don't have to give up a pick right? He can't be classified as a type A or anything, correct?

I'm for it but a player like him can be a little tricky to project. He could be Sizemore-esque or he could be Todd Walker (at the plate).

Well, the Cubs have a hard time projecting their own prospects, so I'd be more than happy if they took a chance on him.

Todd Walker at the plate isnt a bad thing

It is for a corner outfielder who'll command probably 11+ million.

So..no new updates huh? I looked all over and haven't heard a thing. From what I have read on this thread I would love to have this guy on board.

Soriano LF

DeRosa 2b

DLee 1B

Aram 3B

FDome RF

Soto C

Cedeno SS

Not bad. It would be nice if the package was right to put Tejada at SS.

I like that second lineup you have there. Let's see if the mostly incompetant GM of ours can get get that lineup together without doing anything really srupid.

Expecting North to utilize solid reasoning skills is a little like expecting a 2-year-old to grasp the finer details of Relativity.

I'm really surprised that the White Sox have never been mentioned as a team interested in Fukudome. He has the speed and OBP that would look good in CF for the White Sox. He doesn't have the power numbers of Hunter or Rowand, but it looks like his contract could be more affordable than Hunter, Rowand, and Jones. He certainly projects to be a better player than Crisp without having to trade players for him.

I'm ridiculously irritated that there is never any new news on Fukudome.

I'm waiting for Rogers or one of the other writers to say he's not going to sign with the Cubs...then we'll know he'll be a Cub.

The Rangers appear to have set their sights on Fukudome.

The Hunter-Angels union is having a different effect on Texas, where eyes for a center fielder now turn to Japan and Kosuke Fukudome -- seen as a fit in right field, which would allow Marlon Byrd to shift to the middle.

Now I understand why the Cubs have cooled on the idea of going after Kuroda. Hendry is such a idiot.

"Now that Ryan Dempster is being given a chance to start, general manager Jim Hendry heads to Monday's winter meetings in Nashville with one less role to fill.

"We feel like we've got a lot of depth," Hendry said, naming Kevin Hart, Sean Marshall and Sean Gallagher as possible starters after fifth starter Jason Marquis.

--- Hendry. What a moron.

I actually see no problem with that statement. Id rather they worked on fixing the offense then hand out multi year deals to a pitcher. Sooner or later you have to let your kids get a chance, and Gallagher, Hart, and Marshall have all shown upside. Thats not even including Prior either. Offense is this teams problem.

I think he was referring to the part about Dempster starting.

That would be nice

if only the winter meetings were open to the general public :(

Let Hendry know you can play 2B, he'll hunt you down.

Old news or new news, the idea of Dempster starting is horrible. We'll trot him out for a few weeks and he'll be 0-5 with a 7.64 ERA and then we'll either move him to the pen or release him.

I have no problem giving the young guys a shot, but I have a feeling Hendry is going to be way to enthused about starting Dempster and try to push it even though he will suck in a starting role. Hopefully Lou can push back enough that the experiment ends before it fails miserably.
