That might have been the best game IU has played all season. Penn St. gave everything they had. They were at one point 8-12 from 3, and over 50% from the field, with most of the shots closely contested. But IU turned a solid defensive effort to a great one at the 11 minute mark, figured out the 2-3 zone, and won going away.

Sampson went no nonsense in the 2nd half, and stayed with the same 5 all half. Gordon stayed under control for a change and Jamarcus Ellis and Eric Gordon were great defensively on Cornley and Battle, respectively.

they only beat psu by 15 and were actually trailing by a point about midway through the second half. plus penn state's best player blew out his knee in the last game. i'm not really seeing how it was an impressive win for iu.

Did you watch the game? Penn St. gave IU their best game, probably of the season. Again, they were 8-12 from 3, and over 50% from the floor with 11 minutes left in the game. Pretty much every shot after open 3's to start the game was strongly contested. Their zone defense, kept IU off the boards (a top 15 reb. team) and they had a rebounding advantage until late in the game. Penn St. really played a great game. Even if we would have lost that game, I wouldn't have had much to complain about. The defense was solid throughout. Didn't turn the ball over. Had a good amount of assists per basket. Didn't commit stupid fouls.

If IU plays every minute the rest of the season like they did the first 30 vs. Penn St., they will win most of their games and be a Sweet 16 team. If they play every minute like the last 10, they're gonna be tough for anyone to beat. We took a solid game, with a good effort, and turned the last 10 minutes to nearly flawless basketball.

They should just give you guys the trophy right now.

Hehe...

Just admit that comment about not being a top 4 team in the A-10 was just a tad bit of hyperbole.

Can't say anything positive about IU. Sorry just can't. Get rid of Kelvin and you can be my second favorite team again though.

Why is Duke and UNC ahead of Tennessee? UT is #1 in the RPI and have the #2 SOS.

Because they are Duke and UNC? That's my guess.

At least this isn't the BCS so it doesn't matter all that much.

i know it. i hate to say pearl has a pretty good team down there.

Well both teams have three wins ove rranked teams.

Duke has Marquette, Clemson and Wisconsin

Tennessee has Xavier, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss

Both teams losses are against a ranked team

Duke-Pittsburgh (when they were healthy)

Tennessee- Texas

Both teams have other pretty good wins, Duke seems to have one or two more. But their resumes seem to be pretty equal and Duke has the benefit of beating a Clemson team that gave UNC all sorts of fits on Saturday. I'm not surprised that Duke is ahead in one poll and Tennessee is ahead in the other.

I don't know why Carolina seems to still be getting a lot of respect. They have one quality win (Clemson) but all the other games have been against average to mediocre teams, and they haven't blown anybody out either, rather winning the games at the end of the game (Clemson, Georgia Tech, Davidson).

Latest Bracketology is out:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

Some Highlights:

For all the talk about 4 no-doubt #1 seeds last week, this week there is a new #1 seed. Tennessee replaces UCLA in the top spot.

Big 10 with a strange alignment. The 3 top teams are all 3 seeds. After that, I saw Ohio State as an 11 seed and one of the last 4 teams in. Another Big 10 team sneaks in with a quite solid 9 seed, and that's Purdue.

Drake with a 4 seed..good for them. Hope they can keep it up.

The Big East is probably going to suffer as the year goes along just because of attrition. They might have 9 teams worthy of a berth right now, but 1 or 2 of those teams will be left out by the time Selection Sunday rolls around.

Texas A&M #16 in the country, and a #8 seed.

I'll suspect as things go forward, UCLA and UNC and a few other teams will fight for the final 2 #1 seeds. Gotta think Memphis and KU are locked in as #1s at this point, given their schedule.

Only 6 Pac-10 schools (UCLA and WSU as #2s, Stanford as a #4, Arizona State as a #8 and Arizona and Oregon as #9s) with USC as one of the first four out. I think the Pac-10 sends 7.

They've accomplished next to nothing. I posted that a few pages back.

Notre Dame has somehow moved up from an 8 to a 7 the last two weeks using two road blowouts. Maybe if we keep getting spanked on the road we'll be a #1 seed!

i liked tennessee a lot coming into this year; looks like they're as good as i thought they could be. if the tourney started tomorrow, i'd have them winning it all.

Adding Tyler Smith was huge for them. I never felt like people (media included) understood just how important that addition was.

Oh and sorry Weske.

heh, thanks....i told my g/f at halftime that purdue would win by 7 (yes, i really called it) because i knew illinois would go at least 5+ minutes without scoring in the second half...boy oh boy was i right....turning point in the game was randle's turnover when illinois was up 40-31...he dribbles off his foot, purdue scores and then there were 2 very long t.v. timeouts and all the momentum was gone...illinois didn't score but 1 point over the next 5 and a half minutes, meanwhile purdue scored 17 or so, heh....long story short, illinois isn't good.

p.s. it was really cold up there, i haven't felt weather like that in 5 years or so.

Iowa fans did. He's got that tough to find blend of great athleticism and high basketball IQ/court sense. He was the perfect piece to that puzzle.

The bright orange jacket is excellent.

Weber did it first.

And Pearl's a scumbag.

Ummm, Weber did it first? Perhaps someone should tell that to Ray Mears, who did it in the 60's for the Vols, and is the reason why Pearl does it now.

Got me on that, was not aware. Thanks for not contending Pearl being a scumbag. :)

JP Prince was just as big an addition as Tyler was. Two EXCELLENT transfers.

When your facts are wrong (orange blazer) it's easy to argue. When you opinion is, not so much. And I have no interest in arguing for the sake of arguing. You dislike Pearl. So be it. AS a UT fan, I like him. NOthing you say will change that.

In a little over 6 hours, it will time for the Vols to put a Gardner Webb type beatdown on the Mildcats in Lexington.

Actually, I don't think we'll win by 18, I just believe we can.
