FWIW, I was very encouraged by a lot of things last night.

-42-26 rebounding advantage. We continue to dominate on the boards.

-46% from the field, and that included a streak of 8 straight misses in the 2nd half. Without that slump, we are 22-39 from the field and 9-18 from 3.

- When they did throw passes near their teammates, we scored. 18 assists on 22 baskets is by far the best ratio of the season.

- The team was +2 in scoring when Gordon was out of the game, and the team came back from a 4-pt deficit with DJ on the bench with 4 fouls.

-Defense was fine for the most part. Didn't let a good shooting team get a bunch of open 3s.

Really the only thing they did wrong was throw the ball all over the gym.

The big thing that would worry me if I was an IU fan is you have a one year window with this team. Gordon and White are gone after this, plus I think you are going to get some more penalties from Sampson's calls. You have a lot of bad games. You have one of these in the tournament at all and you are done. Illinois and Minnesota shouldn't be allowed in the same gym with you because of your talent, but you are letting those type teams hang around you.

I understand at Minnesota, them hanging around. But you're right, we should have opened up a can at home vs. Illinois. The next 2 games can put those two to bed though. I know we may have a 1-year window, but my hope is Gordon keeps playing like last night and we still win and his stock drops and he's forced to stay another year, where he scores about 30 per game. Yeah, that's possible. :pig:

It's a one-year window which is disappointing, but that's the zeitgeist now. I doubt Ohio State is terribly unhappy about their one-year window last year. Wish there was at least a two-year window, oh well.

I have no idea how the penalties will work, though I don't think they'll be debilitating. IU needs to add a JUCO big man as they're going to struggle inside next year, but their perimeter attack will be very, very good.

On Minnesota, any game involving IU and the barn will be tough. Seriously, most IU fans are more than happy to get out of there with any possible win. That place has been a house of horrors. Illinois-Indiana is a strange situation, as well. I wish IU had played better in both, but hope they can continue to improve -- their ceiling is still very high.

Likewise, 12-23 free throw shooting? That's awful. Tollackson was 0-7 from the line. 0-7!! I'd never let him get a shot off in a close game. Tubby needs to have them practice at the line. A lot.

UK had some pretty bad free throw shooting teams during tubby's tenure as well.

I'm happy with the win, but IU had turnovers in about 40% of their possessions, and shot 60% for all but a 6 minute stretch. Turn the ball over a season average 14 times, and shoot 50% in those other posessions. That's an 18-20 point win and nearly 80 points scored.

I read Raw's post to say IU should have won by more, but didn't, and that is concerning. No?

I read it as saying normally IU should win the game by 20 points, but he's not counting Minnesota as having a brutal game as well.

I don't think Minnesota necessarily had a brutal game; certainly not to the level of Indiana's 26 turnovers or by far Gordon's worst game (his previous low point total came in the game he got hurt and left in the first half). Minnesota only had 10 turnovers, and while they didn't shoot well from the line, they're generally not a good foul shooting team -- especially the main culprit, 47% shooter Tollackson, who missed all seven FT's. They were much worse from 3 than normal, however. Inarguably, some of IU's turnovers were a direct result of Minnesota's defense, but some were complete aberrations. Indiana must play better; however, they are 4-0 in the Big Ten and 3-0 on the road (winning at a place they never win and a place Michigan State couldn't).

Of course you did. Everything I post is clearly uplifting IU and putting down every other team in the nation.

Why the hell do I have to explain myself for every post in this thread?

Because Illinois fans are very bitter.

I'm anxiously awaiting the inevitable IU loss at Illinois when the outrageous UofI vitrol will be in full effect in this thread.

Man I hate Indiana basketball.

How's the weather up on there on that cross?

Can some neutral party come in and explain to me what exactly raw was trying to say in his post about the Minnesota game?

Can somebody explain why the non-U of I fans didn't pick up on raw's sarcasm(?) about calling IU the best 1 loss team?

Get over yourselves, you've played nobody all year, and now that you've squeaked out wins over a couple NIT teams(if we're really lucky) It's not that Indiana has had a couple bad games, they haven't had a good game in Big 10 play. They haven't wowed me in any game, except maybe Kentucky, and a lot of that depends on how good Kentucky actually is, which I really don't know right now.

Your first point is incorrect: IU has played one good team this season (they just lost to them by 15). Surely no one would argue that IU has beaten anyone significant. They haven't. In fact, it's been an area of consternation among IU fans. Not all of it is their fault -- they did schedule Kentucky, at Southern Illinois, ACC/Big Ten Challenge and the upcoming UConn game. The season has been fun, but, for the most part, I've been pretty bored with the inevitable results. They do finally have a tough stretch coming up starting with the UConn game.

I also think IU played pretty well at Michigan -- who is terrible, admittedly. That's still, at best, one good game in four. The Kentucky game was impressive considering who was missing.

Ah yeah, I forgot about the suspensions/injuries for the UK game, that was impressive.

Like I said. Bitter as hell.

I think raw, myself, CCP, and a few others I'm forgetting (IU fans) have clearly admitted IU hasn't played well the last two games. The don't really have any big wins with UK struggling and SIU not being what they've been the last few years. They obviously lost to Xavier.

Who the hell is saying otherwise? Jesus, raw made a joke about IU being the best 1-loss team and every Illinois fan blew their freaking lid. All I hear about is how much Illinois fans hate IU and Kelvin Sampson. How they hope Eric Gordon gets injured. That's not bitter?

I'm not above being bitter as hell and hating other teams. But just admit it. I hate the Packers with the fury of a thousand suns. It's largely irrational and I'm bitter when they are better than they Bears. I freely admit that. This is no different.

Still, I pretty much agree with your overall point. While I'd rather beat UK than any other team on the schedule, I'm not sure it's a good thing that their most impressive performance came at half-strength. Where's the full-strength impressive performance?

I have no problem saying I hate IU. None at all. As soon as Kevlin gets canned I can like them again. The guy is a cheater and is bad for the whole conference. AS for the whole exploding at a joke Raw made, are you kidding me? All we did was point out how you weren't even close. Plus it wasn't all that clear that he was joking.

Maybe if you'd never seen Raw post before. It was pretty clear he was kidding.

As for IU not being a top 10 team....name 10 teams better. Kansas, Memphis, UNC, UCLA are all clearly better. Washington St and Georgetown are pretty good, and probably better.

My post on page 66 of this thread. One you (illiniguy) clearly read, because you took exception to it and responded to it by naming about 10 other teams you thought were better (I'd like to point out that of those teams Xavier, Dayton, Butler, and Texas A&M all lost to non-ranked teams). So right there, I named two 1-loss teams that I think are better than IU, and Georgetown was a 1-loss team when I posted that. How convenient of you to forget that. And again, I have repeatedly called UCLA the best team in the nation in this thread.

My bad, I mix a lot of you IU fans up. If Minn and Illinois shoot free throws like most girls junior high teams you lose twice this past week. Teams start to lose on the road in conference.

Notre Dame flat-out sucks on the road. They're never going to get anywhere with the selection committee if they can't play on the road.

And if IU made a few more shots, the games wouldn't have been that close. Its like Gordon Bombay obsessing about missing that shot by a quarter of an inch and then Charlie has the wisdom to tell him if it was a quarter of an inch the other way he would have missed it completely. You, illiniguy, are obviously not as wise as Charlie Conway.
