Being from the northeast I enjoy reading about the midwest and other area battles. I wish we had some USC fans to mock raisin.

Sponge Worthy?

Sorry, I'm married.

Is he a USC fan? I'm sure you'd smell one out in one post.

Scott Martin, late of Purdue, will join Ben Hansbrough as a transfer to Notre Dame starting in the 2009-10 season. Very nice.

That's good for Notre Dame, but as a Purdue fan, I'm not happy. I think he was poised to have a very good sophomore season.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand Arizona lost another recruit in 2009 elite PG Abdul Gaddy who decommited. And rumors persist that Brandon Jennings might not qualify for next season.

The California attorney general is getting involved in the whole OJ Mayo situation because of the non-existant sickel cell charity which was used to funnel money: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3419203

gotta think the NCAA will frown on that.

If Brandon Rush qualified how the hell can this kid not? Rush went to about 15 schools.

at what point do we start a 2008-2009 thread?

I was thinking about cranking one up once schedules start trickling out in August.

According to ESPN, a HS coach has 10 3 way phone calls by Sampson, Sampson says they weren't intentional.

I am suprised at this point he isn't like, yep I did it. I guess he must think some college will be dumb enough to hire him again.

Jordan Crawford is transferring from IU.

There are no, zero, nada, zilch, returning scholarship players on next year's team. I can't even say I'm that upset. Crawford is a nice player, but he wouldn't have made a difference next season.

Crean has his work cut out for him.

Yeah, I read this about a month ago. But, Sosa21 told me that for sure that was a bunk rumor. Oh well, at least Crean will have all his players.

Indiana is going to be quite terrible next year. I don't think they crack double digit wins.

Depending on the schedule, you could be right. If the schedule is like last year's I think IU will sneak into double digits. They are going to take some ugly, ugly losses.

We still have one returning scholarship player. Kyle Taber was on scholarship last year. Granted he is a former walk-on but we still have his 1.3 ppg returning. \:D/

That is the way I felt at the time. So I'm wrong, have fun with it. But you also said the Dodgers would sweep the Cubs at Wrigley and I correctly called that one wrong so I'm 1 out of 2 with you. 8-)

This is true. I tend to bet against the Cubs and then be very happy when I am wrong.

Emmanuel Negedu chooses Tennessee toady.

The Rivals #10 class will get a boost up near the #5 mark- the highest ranked recruiting class in school history.

Man, you guys are racking them up.

Man the Iowa ties to Tennessee basketball continue. Negedu was supposedly a near lock for Iowa before Alford was put on notice and then fired. He was going to be a packaged deal with the committed Beas Hamga through their caretaker/AAU coach.

Heckuva class, no doubt. BUt, Tennessee needed it... badly. For a program that is just reemerging on the national scene, Tennessee was on a bit of tenuous ground with the graduations of Jajuan Smith, Jordan Howell, and Chris Lofton and the dismissals of Duke Crews and Ramar Smith. That is about 55% of our overall production last season.

To replace Lofton with Hopson is huge. Replacing Ramar and Duke with Bobby Maze (who is admittedly a huge thug, but someone who will hopefully make the most of this second chance) and Negedu is enormous. If RS Frosh Cam Tatum can offer just a portion of what J. Smith offered, and if Daniel West can come in and play some meaningful minutes at the point, and if Renaldo Woolridge can be a solid backup to JP Prince, this Tennessee team could be very, very good, and should be the prohibitive favorite to win the SEC again.

Several "if's", but Pearl has apparently reloaded, and has a team that could be very scary late in the season next year. Thank God for the summer league that happens in Knoxville, so that some of these guys can play competitive basketball together to get ready for next season.
