This is a joke. Ohio State's going to make the tournament because they beat a Purdue team that isn't that great.

Boy the Big 10 blows this year.

The conference is bad, but Purdue is the best team Ohio State has beaten this year if they hold on, easily. Purdue has played like a top-20 team, especially since January.

Ohio State still needs to win a conf. tourney game or two to get off the bubble

I need to point out that I screwed up the way the tiebreakers work when I talked earlier. It is unlikely for Illinois to get out of the 10 seed.(They need to either beat MSU and Minnesota or Iowa has to lose to NU)

This means a possible 3rd shot at IU, with a follow up against Purdue/Minnesota. That's really not the most lock me up and never let me out of the padded room insane scenario. Of course we'd get absolutely rocked by Wisconsin/MSU/OSU playing our 4th game in a row, but it'd be nice to have some fun this season. Even if it's all happening in my head.

it's obviously an uphill battle, but i really think kentucky will get in if they win three more games. then again, i can't take the blue sunglasses off. injuries have really killed this year. they wouldn't have been great, but i don't think they would have been close to the bubble if everyone was healthy.

@ loukycub: louisville is playing like a top 10 team right now. how do you feel about the georgetown game on saturday?

depends on two things that we don't know until gametime. if edgar sosa plays within his game and doesn't let the crowd in his head and doesn't forget that he's edgar sosa, and if terrance williams takes smart shots, i think we may have a similar game to what we had last time. it's going to be a grind-it-out game and if we play smart basketball, we can win this thing.

(if you haven't noticed, i have no confidence in edgar as a point guard. pitino needs to move him to the 2 position for all of our sakes.)

We finally figured out a way to win at Northwestern. Just like the last 3 years, we had a huge lead (17 in the first half, 13 with 7 minutes to go) and collapsed late. Somehow we pulled this one out without ever giving up the lead.

6-12 finish, looks like it would probably give us the 7 seed and a first round game against Illinois or Michigan.

Do we hold a tiebreaker with PSU? They have IU and UW left so it will probably be a tie at 6-12.

By my understanding we would, but I could be wrong. We split the head-to-head. Then it goes to record against the top teams. We each went 0-2 against Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and each went 1-1 against MSU. We went 1-1 against Ohio State while they went 0-1. We went 0-1 against Minnesota while they went 0-2.

We've had 3 injured players out for the year and lost another to grades.

How bad do you have to be to fail at Syracuse?!? 8-)

Wow, that tiebreaker sucks, but Ill take it if means we get another shot at Illinois.

If ND falls into the danger zone of becoming a 5 seed - which would require a loss before the Big East semis, which I don't think will happen - I will spend every night praying that Ohio State is matched up with them in a 5/12 game.

I can't emphasize this strongly enough.

I would say something about OSU possibly bumping a Big East team that would likely mop the floor with them from the tourney, but at this point Cuse and Nova need a lot of help to slip into the dance.

BSU sent Peyton Stovall out the right way tonight with a 69-63 senior night win over NIU. A fitting end for Peyton, as he compiled his third double-double of the season (he'd never had a double digit rebound game until this season when we had no size). In one sequence towards the end of the game, he had a fastbreak layup, took a charge, then rebounded a Cardinal's missed free throw to clinch it. Obviously 97 percent of you have no idea who Peyton Stovall even is, but I'm going to miss that guy.

BSU is now 6-22 (5-10 MAC) and locked into the 10th seed in the MAC tourney, which I'll be covering in Cleveland over spring break. Woohoo.

Fine with me. In these hard times, beating Iowa takes some of the edge off.

He had a couple of classes that he failed but if he was at Illinois, he'd be an Academic All-American! :hello:

Also, conference rankings by Pomeroy Rating, which uses a Pythagorean method based on offensive and defensive efficiency, indicates the Big Ten may not be quite as bad as the RPI suggests.

Yeah, I knew that stupid game was going to hurt. It was a bad matchup for us because, well...the kids had to play man to man and God forbid they actually move their little feet and be good at it.

One thing is...at least matchup wise, we got bounced last year after having a better everything than Marquette and beating them too, and yet it didn't matter. I really don't think they ever do head to heads in "The Committee" Our SOS is very strong but you have to win more games.

I'm not saying Ohio State should be included instead of Syracuse because of that one game. One game is just that, a singular isolated incident. My point was that we have empirical proof that it's not a certainty some of those Big East teams would mop the floor with Ohio State. The Buckeyes, in fact, mopped the floor with Syracuse -- who played with now-injured Eric Devendorf (a 17-point scorer in his ten games this season).

Comparing the teams, Pomerey has Ohio State #31, Syracuse #45, Villanova #61. West Virginia is, however, #18.* Sagarin has them #39, #50, #64 and #22, respectively. The teams schedule strengths, by Pomeroy, are #19, #12, #41, and #57. That was extremely convoluted, I'm sorry. Still, Ohio State should absolutely be in the discussion with those Big East bubble teams. If they beat Michigan State this weekend, I think they should move to the front of the line.

*I'm not exactly sure why West Virginia is so loved by the computers. Outside of beating Marquette, Syracuse and Pitt at home, they haven't done much. Pomeroy also has Minnesota #43 and Illinois #37. It seems the Big Ten isn't so bad afterall.

West Virginia beating Pitt 40-30 at halftime. :D (my entire mom's side is from there) This would be huge for their tourney hopes.

Your moms side should be very happy with this one. Are they all WV alum?

Mostly, some went to UK.

But they all grew up there and my mom went there.

ND will become the first Big East team ever to go unbeaten at home two straight seasons tonight barring a total meltdown against St. John's. Also Rob Kurz Night for our only senior. Fun times.

According to Mike Patrick Coach K saved Christmas for the troops in Iraq. He then went on to say that makes Coach K a super combination of Jesus, Santa Claus, Coach K, and Optimus Prime. God bless Mike Patrick.

Mike Patrick's the definition of the word "tool."

Gerald Henderson falls to the floor while holding the ball. He then calls for a timeout.

Patrick praises him for a heady play. Elmore says that had to be a travel. Patrick says maybe it wasnt. Elmore says you can't fall with the ball. Patrick says maybe he called timout before he fell. Unreal. Just making excuses up as they go.

Thank you, Dewayne White Jr. DJ White played his last game in Assembly Hall tonight, and went out with a win. He had a huge momentum changer in the game, as he hit about a 26ft 3-pointer, with a man in his face as the halftime buzzer went off to give the Hoosiers a 4-point lead. That was his first career 3. And for the first time under Dakich the Hoosiers looked like a team that bought in to their coach. 55 allowed to the 3rd highest scoring team in the conference, after giving up 86ppg since Sampson left.
