Yay! We're better than Northwestern......barely. DJ and EJ combined for 55 points on 17-25 from the field and 15-19 from the line, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Rest of team had 20 points on 7-27 shooting, 2-2 from the line, 19 rebounds (doesn't include 5 team rebounds), 12 assists and 1 steal.

 

If IU doesn't play much, much better the next five games are going to be a major struggle. They're not very good right now.

Ty Lawson left the game four minutes into the game against Florida State, but Carolina still won in overtime. If he has to miss nay time on Wednesday, that swings the advantage squarely to Duke. Lawson is the one that makes that team run, not Hansbrough. They already lost their backup point guard for the season so if Lawson can't play that leaves Quentin Thomas playing almost all of the game for UNC at point guard. They might go Ellington at PG for the rest of the game, but Lawson is UNC's MVP.

The sports report on the news tonight indicated that is was a high ankle sprain, and he's doubtful Wednesday. If it is much of a sprain I doubt he returns after just three days.

Also of note, Kyle Taber is not the answer. Maybe Sampson is just sending a message to someone, but I don't look forward to Taber getting dominated in the coming games (starting Thursday).

What the hell is going on in the Big 10?

 

Umm, total ass?

SEC isnt much, if any, better. They have the best team of the 2 conferences, but other than that the 2 conferences are alot alike.

 

Tennesee is pretty clearly the best team, but I'd probably take the next 5 from the Big 10 before taking an SEC team.

 

Yea I was just being gentle. After Tenn, the SEC as Hosak put it is "total ass". Id take IU, Mich State, and Wisconsin over the next 3 best SEC teams, and Id likely take Purdue as well.

 

the SEC is definitely down, but i can't really complain since the SEC has basically dominated the college sports scene over the past few years.

 

the SEC will be back when UK returns to dominance in 2010.

According to ESPN announcers, kansas is "classy" because they didn't shoot with 20 seconds left, up 19. They were fellating the hell out of the jayhawks the last 5 minutes of that game. Awful officiating, awful game, and we're an awful team. I can't wait for baseball.

Arghh, Luc Richard out for the Washington schools and he'll be evaluated in 7 days to see if he can come back from his sprained ankle. He will be missed, he completely shut down Kyle Weaver the last time UCLA played WSU and UCLA probably would have beaten USC if he had played the 2nd half of that game.

Valentine is infamous in Notre Dame circles for calling a blocking foul on Colin Falls in last year's NCAA tournament loss to Winthrop after the Irish were already near midcourt and about ready to run their offensive set after an apparent defensive stop. The key moment in the game, I believe Winthrop was up 4 or 6 when it happened. He is a terrible ref.

 

Hightower actually came and reffed a Ball State/CMU game earlier this season. I'm not sure how that happened.

After I left Purdue and took a job at Seton Hall, I was talking to one of my co-workers before a Seton Hall basketball game. I told him the one thing I wouldn't miss about the Big Ten is seeing Valentine officiate games. Sure enough, the officials take the court and there he is.

 

Now that Bob Knight is retired and will have more time on his hands, Valentine may want to put an extra lock on his door.
