penn state is getting an early comittment from some 6'8" swingman from NJ today

i'm sure he's awesome

lead his high school to the NJ state title and a 32-2 record. Averaged 4 blocks per game and had 10 blocks in the championship game. that said, he's hardly Mr. Basketball for NJ or anything

well according to rivals.com, penn state stole him away from some big offers by the patriot and ivy league

Welcome to my Syracuse football recruiting Hell.

I know PSU can recruit in football just as SU can in basketball. I was comparing the PSU basketball recruiting to SU football recruiting and the types of players they can get.

Let the record show that Rivals ranked Northwestern's class one spot ahead of Illinois' in the Big Ten rankings.

haha, liked this from ESPN.com College BB section

1. The Zestier Mayonnaise

University of Illinois-Chicago's Josh Mayo was a huge prospect coming out of Merrillville, Ind., in the Class of 2005. So huge that he was assigned two stars in a photo-less, news-less profile in Scout.com's recruiting database. So huge that he wasn't even in Rivals.com's recruiting database. USC's O.J. Mayo, meanwhile, was a slightly huger prospect coming out of Huntington, W.V.: five stars in every recruiting service, and the No. 1 overall prospect in Scout.com's rankings. O.J. also was on the cover of SLAM last month standing in front of a Bentley. They are neither brothers nor cousins, nor did they, coming into this season, appear to be operating in the same basketball universe.

Until they went and actually played the games, that is. When the first weekend of the 2007-08 season was said and done, Josh Mayo > O.J. Mayo. The pride of Merrillville -- now a junior at UIC -- dropped 34 points on 11-of-17 shooting in an upset of Bradley on Saturday. The Fresh(man) Prince of L.A. had 32 against Mercer -- but he needed 27 shots to get there, also committed eight turnovers, and his Trojans lost by 15. To Mercer! Prediction: When Mayo is still taking 20-plus shots a game in three or four years -- for a bad NBA team -- he will not care about this. And Josh Mayo will still have yet to appear in a national publication, standing in front of a Bentley.

Grr, quit calling OJ Mayo the Fresh Prince of LA.

maybe that's why ucla football sucks, they save most of their money for the basketball recruits

Scout has UCLA's 2008 football class ranked #3 (though the rest of Dorrell's recruiting classes have sucked) and Baseball America has UCLA's 2007 baseball class ranked #7 (and their 2008 class could easily be top 5).

Too bad UCLA doesn't spend big bucks on their football coaches.

Iowa State has their first real test tonight @ Bradley. They looked sloppy on offense this weekend against Winston Salem State and Centenary at home, partly because their most efficient scorer from last year, Wesley Johnson, was out with a sprained ankle. He was noticeably limping walking to the bench and probably won't play tonight. Either way the strategy should be to pound the ball inside where ISU has an advantage. Hoping for the upset (Bradley is favored by 10) but I don't like their chances w/o Johnson.

I'm also going to be keeping an eye on UNC-Davidson, which could have upset potential since Davidson returns everyone from a 29-5 team that gave Maryland trouble in the tournament last year.

Davidson gave them all they wanted. I wonder why the Davidson coach pulled Stephen Curry when he did so late in the second half? I think once they got to that point they had to keep him in for the remainder. I would assume the Duke-Davidson game is at Duke later this year. No way is K going into their gym. You get tested like that, you get a better test for March. But, that doesn't seem as important to K anymore as his win-loss record in the regular season.

As I said earlier in this thread, North Carolina will NOT be a final 4 team. Not because they almost lost to Davidson. It's because they will have the same probably all year that they had tonight. UNCs players over 6'5" NOT named Tyler Hansbrough combined to go 2-6 for 4 points, and 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. Hansbrough is prone to foul trouble, and their guards aren't good enough scorers to keep up with good teams when he's not on the floor.

Iowa State loses 65-56. Bradley did a great job keeping ISU from getting the ball inside, they could never overcome a 9-0 run to start the 2nd half. Clark was able to shut down Crouch, but they didn't have an answer for Ruffin. The offense really needs Wesley in there, because it looks terrible right now.

Ball State blows a 17-point lead and loses to UW-Milwaukee in overtime. Panthers made not one, but two ludicrous threes in the last ten seconds to tie it. Ball State will be 0-3 for the first time since 1973 after they get blasted by Georgetown next week.

VMI puts up 84 in the first half on their way to 135 points tonight. They go 13-55 from the 3 point line. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/boxscore?gid=200711140621

Great things about that boxscore.

-VMI- 114 shots from the field, Wesleyan- 64 (that's 50 more shots than your opponent!)

-VMI- 30 offensive rebounds!

-VMI- 26 steals.

-11 VMI players played 10+ minutes, and 1 more played 9.

-Williams for VMI scored 38 points in 20 minutes. Put up 27 shots in 20 minutes.

-135 points may be the most ever scored by a team that made just 8 free throws. Meaning, they scored most of their points with the clock running. And 13 threes isn't a huge number by any means.

Iowa beat Northern Colorado 59-47. The game was closer than that for most of the second half. Just a brutal game by the officials led to 45 total turnovers. They combined for about 10 (maybe more) carrying violations and 6 moving screens. Just killed any flow that the game may have had with the constant whistles.

Freshman PG Jeff Peterson was the star of the game again. 20 points on 7-10 FG, but he did have only 2 boards and 2 assists to 6 turnovers (2 carries) to go along with it. He might have shown more skills tonight than he did in the 12 point, 9 assist, 0 turnover game the other night. When Northern Colorado made it tight in the second half he repeatedly got into the lane when he wanted and finished nicely in traffic.

Kurt Looby had 4 points, 7 boards, 4 blocks and 4 steals.

Bah. Stanford finished on a big run to take a 31-25 lead into the half against the Coble-less 'Cats.

I'm really disappointed that Kevin Durant isn't still at Texas. It would have been hilarious to see what he would have done to the UCD defense.
