Theriot shouldn't be in the lineup, let alone batting 2nd. Bruce, you need to get in Lou's ear and tell him to put DeRo 2nd. Also, give a start to Cedeno.

Other than Theriot/DeRosa flip-flopped, that's the best lineup the Cubs can currently put on the field.

Kendall has got to be pretty upset right now. Having said that, if Soto hits like he did in the regular season, who cares.

on the other hand, I would say:

Kendall may or may not be upset, but who cares?

There's credence to the argument that, after flipping Riot and DeRo, you could swap Riot out for Cedeno and improve the lineup.

That's what I'd do. But seriously, at the very least, you can't have Theriot batting 2nd.

There's credence, but not altogether great IMO. Theriot is 174 points better against left-handers than right handers in his career. Cedeno in his career is 131 points better against right-handers than left-handers. Theriot is 4/6 against Davis, and Cedeno is 0/6.

I'm all for giving Cedeno some starts right now, but this is the type of matchup that is good for Theriot. A left-hander who is a nibbler, won't come inside much, and Theriot has had success against him.

Cedeno meanwhile struggles against left-handers, loves the ball inside, loves fastballs, and struggles with patience with pitchers who throw just off the outside corner. He also has had no success with Davis in limited at-bats.

I'd start Cedeno at least one of Saturday or Sunday, but not tonight.

Does Davis really stay outside all the time? He described himself as somebody who comes inside a lot.

He likes to jam hitters with his cutter and fastball inside, but likes to catch the edges outside with his breaking ball. If he isn't given a good size strikezone, he's pretty much F'd.

From what I know (and this is backed up from what Chris said below me) Davis doesn't come inside for strikes very often. When he comes inside, it's off the plate inside, while he'll try to throw more pitches on the outside corner for strikes.

where the hell is everybody??

Drinking to take the edge off.

Beginning the journey to Chicago!! Enjoy the game, everyone!

Just because I might cry like a little girl if the Cubs do what I expect them to, I'll predict a 7-1 Cubs victory tonight. Lilly is awesome, and Kerry Wood makes an appearance and shuts them down for two innings.

See you guys this weekend.

i'm bored, and i have a question...

i wasn't around here yet last year when the manager talk was going on.. and i don't know how long piniella's contract is but what if he were to say manage this year and next, and left.. what is the consensus on bob brenly taking the job??? i don't need an exhaustive debate, but i was just curious what the overall feeling is..

listening to him on the 'damn yankees' game.. that's what prompted the thought btw...

I'm not a fan - I didn't like the way he managed the DiamondBacks in their 2001 playoff run. I think Alan Trammell is going to be the leading candidate when Lou is done.

why are people pulling for Ronny "55 OPS+" Cedeno to get starts?

Because he hasn't been posting a 55 OPS+ in the past month, when he's been hitting better than Theriot.
