any strikeout with first base occupied is a strikeout and you can not reach first i believe, if you could, it would punish the team for having someone first, as the catcher could just let one go and force you into a double play.. IIRC Announcers on TBS just clarified that the catcher does indeed have to throw to first in the situation with two outs. I guess the rationale is that the double play is not in order. so.... is the situation that the guy on first can advance if he chooses too, as well as the guy at the plate and either can be thrown out for choosing to run (obviously the guy at the plate is out if he chooses not to, as he struck out)?
