1) Ramirez, by a mile

2) Mark DeRosa

3) Derrek Lee

4) Carlos Marmol

5) Kerry Wood

I realized that I meant to put DeRo in there near the top, so I replaced Lilly with him. He's been a solid signing this year, and I can't name too many players whose ability to have fun playing the game is more apparent. He was also my favorite part of both walk-off celebrations in the last week of June.

In no particular order:

Ramirez

Wood

Lee

DeRosa

Dempster

Also, in spite of his performance, Jacque Jones. He just seems like he would be a really cool guy. It's too bad he isn't better.

I have to admit that JJ has grown on me. I still dont think he is a very good hitter. His attitude during this season was great though. I really pull for the guy.

Current

Lee

Ramirez/Lilly tough to decide

Howery

Marmol

Murton/Theriot

All Time

Billy Williams

Ernie Banks

Ron Santo

Andre Dawson

Fergie/Kessenger I know that was 6 seven if you add Joe Pepitone

No I don't follow direction well, my excuse is that i think "out of the box" (a term I can't stand)

This team is full of players that are easy to like. But here's my five, in no particular order:

Lee - great all-around player, also obviously a great person

Ramirez - great hitter, works his butt off (look at his defensive improvement), took a major pay cut to stay with the team, seems to be a quiet leader

Wood - ditto Lee. Also, he was more fun to watch than anyone I've seen when he was starting.

Dempster - hilarious, good guy, doesn't take himself too seriously

Hill - I like his curveball, and that he came up through our system

Also DeRosa, Lilly, Theriot, Zambrano, Howry, Murton, Soriano, Soto, Barrett (I know, I know), Prior (he'd be on there if he was playing), Marmol, and others deserve mention. Maybe I just like everybody.

Zambrano dropping off a lot of people's lists. Oh ye of little faith...

I'll still put him there:

1) Ramirez

2) Zambrano

3) Lee

4) DeRosa

5) Woody (for old times' sake)

Honorable mention: Marmol, Ward, Murton

1. Wood (always my favorite, plus it's hard not to root for him)

2. Lee (besides being a very good player, the ultimate, classy professional)

3. Prior (his career may turn out to be Paradise Lost, but still)

4. Ramirez (excellent player, and I appreciate the way he worked to make himself a better defender and his increased hustle -- make fun if you want)

5. Pie (perhaps hasn't proven much yet, but his exuberance is endearing)

Honorable mention: Marmol, Murton, Soriano, Zambrano

I like Soriano. He's overpaid and not worth the money, but he seems like he genuinely likes playing baseball.

I like JJ too. I wish he wasn't on the team but I like him. I watched him sign autographs and chat with Cub fans for about 1/2 an hour before a game in San Deigo this year. He was as nice as could be.

Lee of course. He just seems like a quality guy.

Theriot and Fontenot are good stories but I couldn't care less about them.

Wood is all business, I couldn't care less about him either. I am glad to see he can still throw the ball though.

I like Z. He's the same all the time, fired up.

That's about it. I don't really care about the players that much. What I mean is I don't have a strong desire to know them on a personal level.

Agreed, one of the best moments of Cubs games is Soriano's smile.

my "best moment of cubs games" is lou's handshakes

1. Ramirez, most potent bat on the team over the past 4+ years.

2. Hill, dirt cheap effective pitchers may be the most valuable commodity in the game.

3. Zambrano, drives me nuts, but I like him.

4. DeRosa, Hendry's constant search for versatile players finally turns up one who is actually worth having play all those positions.

5. Wood, for old times sake, and for the slight hope he'll still put in a couple great years in a Cubs uniform.

Honorable Mention:

Lee, I respect him quite a bit, but other than that insane 2005, I've never been enamored with his game.

Lilly, everything I could have hoped for as a pitcher, even if I'd never get excited if he was the pitcher at a game I was attending.

Floyd, I've always liked him, it's just too bad he's not that good anymore.

Murton/Theriot/Soto/Marmol/Marshall, for being the cheap young players who make it possible to win a bit despite the bloated inefficient payroll.
