I picked nobody (or as the poll says noboy). Not because the Cubs are fine, because they can't really afford it.

Zambrano, Ramirez, Lee, Soriano, Marquis, and Lilly are all tied up in huge contracts. Jones, DeRosa, Blanco, Horwy, Eyre, and Dempster are all players with manageable contracts, but probably can't be traded without eating some or taking a contract back in return. I don't see anyway the Cubs can afford any of those guys, who are all likely to get double digit millions for 2008.

The best case scenarios for the Cubs will probably be trading Marshall, Hill, Pie, or prospects to a team with excess OF options for a legit RF (Hawpe, Rios, Ethier, even Griffey if the money works out).

Fukudome

Help me out here. Anyone got info on Fukodome?

All I know is hes the it guy of this off season, as far as Japanese players gos. Hes stated that when he gts there, he wants to be refered to only as "Kazuke" ala Ichiro, so at least he thinks hes that good. Im sure the usual suspects, Yanks, Mets, Angels, Dodgers will all make aggressive bids, so hopefully our ownership situation will be squared away by then so they can do something.

He wants to go by Kasuke because he was told by a few Americans why he shouldn't have "Fukudome" on the back of the jersey.

However, that jersey would be a marketing idea of genius!

A-Rod... But I doubt Yankees will let him walk after the season he's had.
It's not the Yankees' decision. He has an opt-out clause, so he can choose to walk if he wants to.

I doubt A-Rod will give a flying Fukudome about what the yankee's think after the way they treated him prior to this year.

I know for sure as soon as A-Rod puts on a Cubs uniform, he will have a career-ending injury... So it's best for him to stay away from the North side as much as possible.

He'll actually have that injury while he's putting on the uniform for the first time. :D

ARod would get a papercut signing a contract and then accidentally stab himself with the pen so he got ink poisoning.

how can the answer to this question not be Arod?
That was my first thought as well.

Bcause the obvious answer is that most of us are realist and after wasting 136 mill on soriano I can't imagine we will want to be in a race for another 100+million dollar man. If this is a fantasy then yes ARod

I picked the nobody, but for the same reason as others. The Cubs are going through a sale this offseason. I don't think we'll see much activity from the Cubs when it comes to FA signings.

I don't see how this team can possibly afford another superstar salary given the financial uncertainty of the pending ownership change. The Cubs may get some free agents but they won't be superstars.
