Predictably, the early reaction from Cards fans here is heads in the sand, blaming the New York media for dredging this stuff up, etc.

Now maybe the St. Louis media can look into how Roger Clemens gets away with "staying" young.

Clemens' production the last few years has made me raise an eyebrow.

Sad thing is I'm also getting weird feelings about Nolan Ryan and his stats. :(

As do I. I really don't think it was just advil that helped him.

Anyone who does well past 36 years old (Clemens, Ryan) or their numbers jump up (D Lee) is now suspect. Very sad.

D Lee isn't that old. Many players like Pujols, Helton, and others have been accused of taking this stuff too and I'm curious to see if there is smoke, maybe there's some fire to this. Let's face it, the vets know how and where to get the good stuff and how to keep it quiet.

Would you expect any less from fans that turned a blind eye to LaRusa's drunken binge, the drug use of Hancock and Spiezo and who dubbed Rick Ankiel "The Natural."

Yeah, he's about as Natural as Pamela Anderson's boobs.

I never said he was old. I said his numbers jumped appreciably in one year. Anyone is now suspect of juicing when that happens.

Why, just because a Cardinal got caught?

I suspect that anyone who has used HGH has at one point dabbled in steroids. These stories are just gonna keep coming up.

Of course, Rodney Harrison's suspended for a quarter of the season in NFL and I just haven't heard much about that around the watercooler.

Because the NFL is going to vote him the MVP when the season is over.

Look at the bodies of Clemens vs. Ryan. Ryan was someone with legendary workout rotuine and the shape of his body showed.

Clemens is a diff. story, while his supposed workout schedule rivals Ryan, his ass can barely fit thru a doorway, if you have that workout schedule, you should be able to wear less than size 38 pants.

As far as Ankiel, I respect what he has done especially where he has come from and unless something else comes up, no one will likely ever know. At the expense of greater negative pub towards Ankiel, I hope this would lead to HGH testing in the future, which unfort. puts chemists in a race to create something undetectable.

I thought part of HGH is that you could have a better workout and be able to continue doing so because of the recovery time?

So let me get this straight: this guy is a coke addict, now a drug cheat, and the league is going to just sit by and watch while he carries a team that doesn't deserve a playoff berth to a division title?

I better never hear that MLB now cares about drug use, that's for freaking sure. What a load of crap.

Oh yea, poor Cards being picked on by the media. Is that the excuse this time? Give me a freaking break.

Illegal substances aside, for me, the most frustrating aspect of Ankiel' success is the lack of it on or for the Cubs. He's already hit more HR's than the "Big Time Prospect" Pie is probably going to hit for his career. Seriously, does every positional prospect for the Cubs have to be terrible?

Increase energy and stamina

Build muscle and strength, improve fitness

Accelerate healing

you're right...mlb should step in and disqualify the cardinals from the 2007 season because he got hgh shipments in 2005 and some guy on a message board says ankiel allegedly used coke like eight years ago (and because they don't "deserve" it). let's just see if mlb can mandate a division title for the cubs while we're at it.

the whining in this thread would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic.

Whatever. More of your ultra-sarcastic B.S. I couldn't care less. There are plenty of other things that could be done. How about a suspension, or at least an actual investigation of Ankiel?

But hey, don't let that stop you from acting like a dick.

I agree. Wouldn't that also include being able to have a good workout to increase the illegally acquired mass?

How can you suspend him when HGH was allowed at the time? If there's a witchhunt as far as HGH and Ankiel, you have to do so w/all of the MLBPA. Which I'm fine by as I'd love to see Olympic style testing but neither the PA or Selig/owners truly want.

Sure, you can workout longer, harder, and recover quicker which will you make stronger. There's no doubt a person who uses HGH and works out will achieve more than someone who just works out.

A suspension may not be fortcoming, not should it be unless they can find evidence of a more recent shipment. On the other hand, I'm hoping this turns into a major distraction.

Hopefully, someone will start doing a lot of digging into what "The Natural" has been getting in the mail.

So they (Olympics) can test for HGH?

Posted

I think people are putting too much into his hot start, if he is hitting .210 relegated to the bench b/c he is striking out 1 of every 3 times, this story doesn't have the same wings.

Look at his teammate, Branyan, he started out his career w/Clev. on fire and once they learned how to pitched him a couple of times thru the League, he's been a journeyman player.

So they (Olympics) can test for HGH?

They do, there's some question whether HGH testing can be valid. It has to be done thru blood and the athlete has to use it a day so before testing so it can register. In '08, they'll have it so it can detect HGH if the athlete has used it for a couple of weeks. MLB and the NFL are waiting for urine test to detect HGH.
