Ankiel, 28, has not been accused by authorities of wrongdoing, and according to the Signature records obtained by The News, he stopped receiving HGH just before Major League Baseball officially banned it in 2005.

To elaborate: I'm not saying it's OK, because obviously HGH is illegal anyway, I'm just saying that this claim says he received -- and also stopped receiving -- HGH three years ago.

Yeah while I am not happy to hear this, it was three years ago when he was in the minors as a pitcher, and there is no proof that he has done it the last few years.

Still, why would they just release this information now?

"stopped receiving HGH"... By that do they mean stopped getting supply or stopped injecting it? If it means stopped getting supply, who knows if he took it in 2005 or beyond... The years he converted into an outfielder... Edited by Omar

My guess is cause nobody cared about this sort of thing in 2004, so there wasnt as much scrutiny to look into it back then.

He doesn't need HGH. He has something better, something that guarantees great success to some of the most talentless stiffs and walking cans of garbage in baseball - a Cardinals uniform.

Check out this eerie foreshadowing:

Do you kind of get the sense that he understands the pitfalls of fame and celebrity and that he knows that any moment the media will blow up some story alleging he was using HGH, cheating on his wife, or didn't pay a phone bill on time one month and turn it into the "Let's Absolutely Destroy Someone We Made out to be a Hero Story of that Year?"

"100% Injury Ratey" Blog, August 12th

Whether or not they're blowing it out of proportion is one thing (they're probably not, he used them). I just found it kind of funny and coincidental.

Good point, except neither of these probably help you much at all.

the cards should have to forfeit their world series because of this.

He didn't come back to the majors until early August 2007. All of 2006 he was in the minors.

A Cardinals uniform doesn't help? I can only imagine what our record would be if we had to use the guys the Cardinals have had to this year.

Let the circus begin. . .

When is the general media / fanbase gonna accept that perfomance enhancers were the RULE, not the EXCEPTION, until just a while ago?

I mean, does it really make sense that the only guys using were Giambi, Bonds, Palmeiro, Mac and Sosa? Oh and Alex Sanchez?

Everybody was using. At least the greater majority. It was part of the lifestyle.

He should be tested as much or as little as every other player.

And like Haltz said - it probably has zero effect on his game today.

What a suprise this is.

LOL yes you have been calling for this. The 2004 shipments are really starting to take effect!

I mean look at him, he's a monster at the plate.

I agree with every little bit except the last part. The guys who have a past should get tested more. If he really was on this list, he should be tested each time. Although there really is no test for HGH anyways.

I guess I forgot that magic exists.

I actually meant what a suprise someone in baseball on the juice in the past 5 years. They should come out with studies saying which guys didn't juice up. Augie Ojeda and Tony Gwynn.

Agreed. If you are found to have some type of history (and that term would have to be defined, what "history" means) then yes I agree you should be subject to more testing.

What a disaster this is gonna be.

I just don't understand how that makes it any better.

It is going to be a nightmare. Everyone, well most everyone, is going to be named at some point. Jose Canseco the prophet.

It's not better. But I hate it when I hear fans talk about certain players. You hear people just rail Bonds. I have a couple Cub fan friends who act like McGwire was the only roider in the game, and he tought everything he knew to Pujols.

It doesn't make it right. But don't crucify one player just because you haven't heard about the rest of them. It's not like murder, or dogfighting even - it's cheating at sports.

Maybe it's semantics, but calling HGH "juice" like it's on par with steroids at all, is misleading. I'm not saying that you don't understand or realize that. I'm just pointing it out.
