And when was Monroe late to the park?

He was late to the park for Monday's game. Apparently he missed the Belmont Avenue exit off LSD and Daryle Ward was of no assistance when Monroe phoned him from his car.

Solid move by the Cubs...seems this kid has a garbage attitude.

Must run in the family

Does his dad have a bad attitude or something? You sound like you some of Eric's relatives personally.

Please enlighten us on how EPatt or CPatt have shown a garbage attitude?

So because hes late to a game, he has a garbage attitude?

I'm not going to make any claims about his attitude.

But he was obviously late to more than just one game. it was mentioned he had the same problem in Iowa as well.

We can't know about his attitude overall. But you're right that this has supposedly been a recurring issue for Eric -- so it's not out of line to suggest that his punctuality-attitude is pretty bad, and maybe that is an indication of more.

I don't have a problem with the Cubs handling it this way. However, saying Eric has an attitude problem because of it (not to mention, Corey) is a ridiculously huge leap.

There's no need to compare Eric to Corey, jeez some people need to get over that. I support the Cubs for demoting him. He has been given the opportunity to play for the big league club and was showing up late to the games. Not exactly how things should work when you haven't even established yourself as a major leaguer.

How can this be defended?

If you can't get excited about being a member of the Chicago Cub baseball club, something is not right. If your JOB is playing baseball, and you are not HUNGRY enough to show up to work on time, something is wrong. I applaud the Cubs for sending Eric Patterson down. A guy doesn't deserve to be on the club if he can't show that he wants to be there - of all times, in the middle of a pennant race.

Dude needs to pull his head out. Quickly.

Assuming this is the case.

It's never a good idea to be late for work, especially if you were just hired.

I hope the Cubs at least warned him before firing him, for all intents.

I also hope he learns something from this. At the same time, I hope the Cubs don't make too big of a deal out of it that they trade him for a box of cracker-jacks.

I didn't realize being late equated with a garbage attitude.

And since when has Corey had a bad attitude? Just because he's a bust doesn't mean you have to make up new complaints against him.

Being late constantly will get you fired at alot of work environments. Obviously this is not the first time this has happened with him. As a professional ballplayer you are expected to arrive at a certain time. Not doing so shows a bad attitude towards the team. Its really that simple.

What is the defense for Eric? Its just hard for him to wake up? Insomnia?

I didn't say being late was ok and I have no problem with the punishment. Best way to stamp out something like that is to punish him while he's still a rookie.

That doesn't mean he has a "garbage attitude."

Reasonable move by the Cubs. If it were any of us getting the chance to live our Cubbie dreams, they'd have to yell at us not to sleep in the clubhouse. You know, just to make sure we're on time. :D

Being late is a direct indicator of work ethic, particularly in baseball. Without knowing the circumstances, it's pretty obvious that the kid's head isn't where it needs to be, and I'd rather have a guy with less talent and more desire on the team 10 times out of 10.
