It appears to me that pitchers have throwing to him in the same exact manner every at bat. In fact, its been going on for, at least, the last two months. Its hard for me to believe he or the coaches have yet to figure this out yet, he continues to take the same pitch for strike after strike. Why hasn't he made any adjustments? Pitchers have found an effective approach - they're not going to alter it until Lee renders it ineffective.

IMO he needs to move closer to the plate maybe 4 or 5 inches. Every AB he reminds me of Sammy in 04. They keep pitching him away away away.

The announcer have beem brining it up for months now. I guess Derrek and Gerald Perry are the only ones who havnt noticed. I guess Geralds too busy teaching Cliff Floyd and Daryle Ward to hit singles instead of homers. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

Yes, it has been immensely frustrating watching Lee this year take so many pitches for strikes, ones that are belt-high on the outside corner or right over the heart of the plate. Then the next pitch he'll chase something low and strike out or hit weak ground balls. His pitch recognition just doesn't seem to be working, and he is definitely standing too far off the plate.

Attention Gerald Perry! DLee needs some serious attention!

It's funny that you guys bring this up. One second you complain because the Cubs are too aggressive at the plate and now you're complaining that he's not aggressive enough. Derrek Lee has always shown the ability to work the count. He takes a lot of pitches, and consequently he sometimes has to swing at poor pitches late in the count.

Derrek Lee's pitch selection is perfectly fine and this thread is pointless.

I'm always amused when fans think that the easy solution to a batters problem is to "move closer to the plate." Heheh...in this case......4 or 5 inches!

I still think it would be a great idea for all fans to be required to spend 20 minutes in a 90 MPH batting cage. Just to get a little perspective.

Been there done that. Thanks though. As I said, it is just my opinion.

No offense, man, but how many times do we have to hear you tell us how "worthless" a thread is? Is the only thread worthy to discuss the ones you start??

Last I checked, this was a discussion board and we could discuss any issue we wanted to. If you think a thread is worthless, please just don't continue reading -- or posting in that particular matter.

If you have thoughts, share them. I'm sure you have much to contribute.

FTIW, I think this is a legitimate thread to discuss.

Thank you. I've been saying this for months, but most Cubs fans are so loyal to Derrek Lee that they refuse to accept that he is anything but perfect... maybe for what he did in 2005 or because of his troubles last season, who knows? See, I never fall in love with players, so I don't feel guilty about criticizing them at any time.

Anyway, I totally agree. Almost every single one of his at-bats are like reruns of the previous ones. But you can't ever say that, or Cubs fans will jump all over you.

And as I type this, Lee hits a home run... but I still stand by my argument.

Wait, have you ignored all the other threads about this exact same topic on this board? The issue of Lee's AB's have been discussed here so much that this thread is totally redundant.

What? We have been complaining about Lee's lack of power all year. His on-base skills have still been there, I don't think I've seen any posts "refusing to accept that he is anything but perfect."

I posted it in the game thread but I figure I'll post it here also (with corrected math due to me including DLee playing during his 5 game suspension in July).

DLee now has 11 home runs in 43 games after the All-Star break. If you extrapolate that for a full season that would be 41 home runs.

Len and Bob were also commenting on Lee being a historically good September hitter, which one could argue (I guess) has held true thru two days this season. With the bullpen pitching the way it is and the rotation usually playing above average, the missing power coming back is enough to make this September resemble the one we saw in 03.

It's amazing what happens when you know what you're talking about.
