Um...why? Who would he replace? The only way I'd be interested is if we could give them Marquis and then dump Trachsel after the season.

This doesn't deserve it's own thread, so I'll just put it here.

The Trib[/url]"]General manager Jim Hendry has until midnight Friday to acquire a player that will be eligible for the postseason roster. The Cubs are looking for another bat, but the recent addition of Monroe may be their only move unless something heats up unexpectedly.

It should at least be an interesting day today. Wonder if Hendry ends up adding another piece before the deadline tonight.

Oh, and I have no idea why we'd have interest in Trachsel. What's the point?

Oh god, if we get Traschel our games will be nine hours long.

I used to take a power nap anytime a speedy guy reached first.

The man holds the runners tight though.

Doesnt he still have a couple of years left on his contract? If this is his last year on his contract then I wouldnt be against getting him if the price was nothing. Sounds like the O's want something in return though.

edit: Okay I just thought about it for a minute. If we added Traschel the next time Hill or Marshall had a questionable start they probably would be removed from the rotation. So I am against adding Traschel.

Is this year Trachsel's "good" year, or is it next year?

4.48 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 99 ERA+, 45 K/69 BB

I wouldn't want him acquired to start, but I guess if we gave up next to nothing, he'd be kinda ok out of the pen. Not sure it'd be worth it, though.

This backs up the talk last week that the Cubs were looking for another pitcher as a long relief/spot starter. Trachsel is only signed through the rest of this year.

Although it sounds like the Cubs are now satisfied with their internal options to make that start in September, so it's more and more likely that no move will be made.

He's signed just through this year. Signed a $3.1 million, one-year contract in February.

He's walked more than he's struck out and has a WHIP of 1.56. That's god awful.

He's having "bad years" in bunches now, and the "good years" have turned to mediocre, so, yeah.

Very true. That's why I wouldn't want to give up much of anything worth anything for him and would only want him in a long relief type role. I'd be hoping for a Lilly-esque turnaround (I wouldn't think he'd be close to as good as Lilly, just improved) with him leaving the AL East and working under Rothschild.

If it didn't work, just don't use him and let him go after the regular season.

It should be why you don't want him. Trachsel sucked when he was in the NL, last year.

I don't want him, I just wouldn't be outraged if we gave up nothing to get him. I would probably prefer having Gallagher in the long relief/spot starter role, but with rosters expanding it wouldn't mean not having somebody like Gallagher up if we acquired Trachsel. Plus, I'd hope he'd be on a very, very short leash.

I would be real surprized if the Cubs did this thing. Traschsel bad mouthed the Cubs the entire last season he was in Chicago. I think it was during the Ed Lynch years, so there was probably a lot to bash, but there still has to be people around from that time.

Besides he kind of sucks.

Hendry was around perhaps, so was McDonnogh or however you spell it, and so was KW. That's it.

Besides, wasn't that 7 years ago? If this organization puts its feelings ahead of sound baseball decisions, they don't deserve to make the playoffs. Ever.

I think its feelings and its sound baseball decision are in alignment on this one.

Has any team ever made a trade specifically for one start (the Cards DH game)

If they give up very little, and make this deal specifically for this purpose, I would be ok with it.

Exactly!! Then put him in the BP as another lefty to clean the cleats of the starters
