Here is an article naming 6 of the suspected players, but there is also a bit of a surprise in there as well.

The Cubs also are keeping an eye on Double-A Tennessee pitcher Kevin Hart, who has won nine of his last 10 decisions

He's actually at AAA. And today would be his day to start on 5 days rest but Ryan O'Malley was called up from AA and bumped him. :-k

Call-ups coming: Here's a name to keep in mind for September call-ups: right-handed pitcher Kevin Hart. The Cubs obtained Hart from Baltimore last December for infielder Freddie Bynum, and at Class AAA Iowa, Hart is 4-1 with a 3.54 ERA. At Class AA Tennessee, he was 7-5 with a 4.45 ERA.

Am I the only one not impressed by those numbers? Any of you minor league guys able to tell us more about him? Also, why call him up when Gallagher is fully capable of making a spot start?

Hart has been pretty solid across the board this year at Tennessee. At Iowa he had a better ERA but worse peripherals.

Nope. His numbers seem very average.

Here's a take on Ohamn's impending return...

Link.

In the clubhouse, that is. Ohman still might have a few explanations to make when he gets back, although, as one teammate suggested, less talk might be better.

''Actions speak louder than words,'' the teammate said. ''Come in, keep your mouth shut and pitch. That would be my advice.''

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said he expected Ohman's return to be seamless and talks with teammates unnecessary.

''He just needs to come back in and pitch well,'' Rothschild said.

Ohman seems like the type of guy that rubs people the wrong way and that a lot of people don't get his humor. He's kind of like a mime. Mimes think that they're entertaining people but really they're creepy and annoying.

Wasn't Ohman the Cubs rep to the players' union? I could see that being more of a punishment position than position of respect, but MLBPA take their union very seriously, so I would think they at least hold some respect for the guy they give rep status.

I'm getting some recollection that Prior has(or had) that position, am I crazy?

He was, but Ohman was the last one I've heard. I think between 05 and 06 he took over.

Ohman is recalled and put on verbal probation, if he performs as a LOOGY and middle reliever he is respected and accepted.

Soto is called up and will even get some starts plus some PH opportunities, a hot September and he could go with the playoffs.

Cedeno is recalled and gets a few spot starts resting Theriot in the remaining 19 game stretch in the 18 days.

Pignatiello, another LOOGY but he will have to carry the pink bag.

Patterson, only for that periodic pinch running situation especially when the time is that Ward and Floyd get back to back hits in the late innings.

Because of Trachsel I think Gallagher gets a nice pat on the back, Fox is told to keep prepared and eventually if Pagan is healthy he is taken off the DL.

I dont know if I can any more of Cedenos failure at the big league level. Same story every tim. Puts up great minor league stat, and when he gets the call, he fails. Keep him in Iowa, and let him play some winter ball and give him another tryout in March.

As for Ohman, I hate to say it, but Id rather have Cotts. I dont care how many has beens and never will bes Ohmans baffled in Iowa.

No thanks. Ohman can usually at least get lefties out. Cotts was just terrible all around.

Ohman, Cedeno, Gallagher, Patterson, and Soto called up.

Fox left out for some reason. Youd think that the Cubs would want anyone with the slightest stitch of power, but I guess Fox was too far in Lous dog house for some reason. And of course, Cedeno was nothing short of spectacular in his 2 laughable stints in the bigs, meanwhile Patterson will be relagated to occasional pinch running duties, Gallagher will come in when Zambrano, Marquis, Marshall, ans Lilly melt down in the 3rd, and Ohman will do the same thing he did the rest of the season and act as the teams official rally killer.

Sotos the only one Im excited about. Hopefully he'll get a few starts.

Fox may not be eligible to come back yet; I don't recall the date when he was sent down. The normal rule is that you have to wait 10 days to bring a player back up. There's an exception that a player can come back earlier if the minor league team's season ends before 10 days, but even though rosters can expand today Iowa's season isn't over yet, so Fox couldn't come back up under that provision yet.

Is there a rule somewhere that you HAVE to use each player called up so much or so many times in the last month??

If not, why would Lou not fill out the expanded roster to its capacity just for the sake of having the added depth for any situation that might arise in the last 29 games???

I would have to think Piggy is coming back once Iowa's season is over.

Err, in response to my own question above... maybe Lou is waiting to call more up after the finish of Iowa's season??

No.

(Meph isn't the only poster that can simply answer "no.") :D

It's kind of hard to field a AAA team for the final few games when everyone on the roster is in Chicago. :D

But seriously, more guys are likely to get the call once the minor league season is over.

Good thing they (Iowa) aren't in a playoff hunt, because that tends to delay the call ups even more.

scUM down 28-17 at the half.

And man are they ever taking it cautious with Soriano, I have to think he took of on his own for home. Real nice baserunning.
