Morgan has now beaten Ryno in the Gold glove department too. Ryno lost out being left of the list in the All-Century Team and has now finished 3rd behind Morgan & Alomar for best fielding. The man gets no love.

Morgan also won in a narrow election. Known for his quickness in the AstroTurf era, he got 27 percent at second base and finished ahead of Roberto Alomar (22 percent), Ryne Sandberg (21 percent) and Bill Mazeroski (19 percent).

Ryno was the greatest second baseman of his generation and a hall of famer. Morgan, however, was the greatest second baseman of all time.

(Of course, That doesn't change the fact that Morgan is an a$$clown of the highest order)

I would be interested to see how those numbers would have changed if it was Ryno who was on Sunday Night Baseball every week, and not Morgan.

But.......though I dislike Morgan to the extreme as an announcer, I'm not going to sit here and deny the guy's baseball talents. He was a fantastic player.

No argument there. However, if, as you say, Ryno took every opportunity to toot his own horn, I am sure he would factor in much more to these votes.

Must disagree here. Morgan, while great, not the greatest ever. Was immensely helped by one of the best lineups in history and while winning this vote, was not half the fielder Sandberg was.

How did the great lineup help him? His numbers did improve going from Houston to Cincinati but the Astrodome was probably the worst hitters park in baseball at the time and Riverfront probably leaned towards being a hitters park. I am not saying the lineup didnt help him but its not like he was chopped liver in a pretty bad hitters park. He was also just entering his prime when he joined the Reds. I dont know about all-time but he certainly was the best 2nd basemen of my lifetime. Also to say that he wasnt half the fielder Sandberg was is a little extreme. Joe Morgan was a great defensive 2nd baseman. Probably not as good as Sandberg but not a lot worse.

Morgan = 5 GG

Sandberg = 9 GG

There are plenty of factors that go into that. I'm comfortable just saying they're both HOFers, I'd give the edge defensively to Ryno, and the fact that he's not a complete jerk matters to me, a lot, over Morgan.

can we just admit that morgan was a better player and leave it at that? he was, by the way.

No, and your opinion.

I am not going to state as fact who was better or worse overall and all-time, because that would be my opinion, however, I will amend my previous statement. Morgan was 3/4 the fielder Sandberg was, better? And Sandberg does get left off many "all-time lists" unjustly.

Joe Morgan is the best all-around second basemen of all time. (Fielding, batting, and from the stats and anecdotal evidence, a good baserunner)

I wasn't alive yet, but from what I've read, Rajah was an amazing ballplayer.

Ya, you're a badass if you put a season like this: .403/.489/.756, 210 OPS+, 39 HR, 143 RBI
