Don't know if this is news as it seems that Hendry is putting a claim on everybody, but after the 10:00 update Levine said that besides the Podsednik claim, the Cubs have put a claim on Casey Blake. Levine did not say whether the Cubs have won the claim or not.

Are you sure about this? Why would a first place team in a tight race put their starting third baseman on waivers?

I dont know why Hendry wasnt more agressive in going after Shannon Stewart. he would have been a great addition.

Quality right-handed hitting 1B/3B/RF to provide some power off the bench and another option to start in RF or spell Aramis or Lee. I'd be all for it if the price were right.

Likely a formality. All teams put just about everybody on waivers to hide their intentions about who they're actually interested in trading.

Sign me up. Can he play the outfield?

2005: 138 games in RF

2006: 93 games in RF

Putting him in over Floyd would rule.

Not going to happen. I'm sure a team put in a claim before us and even if they didn't the Tribe will pull him back rather than trade him to us for junk.

Why are we all getting so excited over WAIVER CLAIMS?! It means nothing when we claim a player who is worth a damn, as a trade is very unlikely. Hell, ARod could be put on Waivers, and every team would put in a claim. Doesn't mean a thing.

Anybody questioning picking up Casey Blake is borderline stupid. This would be a huge pickup for us. No way Cleveland doesnt pull him back. He carried them when they werent hitting much in late june till the allstar break.

His OPS+ is 109 (edit - updated this morning) this season, which is pretty much consistent with the rest of his career. Assuming we would not "break the bank to get him", I don't understand why we would not want him. He's an upgrade in RF and provides insurance for ARam. He's basically a slightly older version of DeRosa with more power.

Now this is a waiver claim worth making.

If every other team in baseball didn't put a claim in, I'd be shocked.

I remember thinking a couple years ago he'd be an interesting target, but then I saw how old he was. He had a real late start to his career. It took a while for people to give him a shot. But you're right, even a small market team would have to claim him, because you could be getting a 105 or great OPS+ out of a $4m player next season.

Any word on whether Hendry is putting claims in for players that are actually good? :x

Uh...he just did. Blake is solid.
